This year, Oakley celebrates 50 years of pushing boundaries, merging physics with art, and disrupting not just sport but culture, technology, and style itself. As the brand marks this milestone, the spotlight turns to its next chapter—a bold evolution marked by exclusive product drops, future-facing tech partnerships, and a vision that spans from the playing field to deep space. For fans in Singapore, Oakley’s 50th anniversary isn’t just a celebration—it’s an invitation to be part of the future. Oakley Axiom Space. In a historic collaboration with Axiom Space, the brand has developed the AXEMU Visor System, a revolutionary optical solution designed for astronauts on NASA’s Artemis III mission—the first crewed lunar landing in over 50 years. Drawing on its heritage in creating high-performance eyewear for extreme conditions, Oakley’s visor system is engineered to withstand deep space environments, offering gold-coated, scratch-resistant lenses that provide protection against harmful radiation, infrared light, and micrometeorites. This next-generation space visor technology will be deployed on the Moon’s south pole, where astronauts must navigate extreme lighting and temperature conditions. - Introducing the Li-Ning FEIDIAN 5 Ultra, Elite, and Challenger: Carbon-Plated Performance for Every Runner
The FEIDIAN 5 Series Boasts a Race-Day Ready Lineup from Li-Ning Tailored for Elites, Everyday Runners, and Newcomers Alike PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR In the ever-evolving world of running shoes, the carbon-plated revolution has gone from elite-only tech to everyday gear for the determined. And while other conventional global sportswear giants have dominated the conversation, Li-Ning is making bold, confident strides with the launch of its FEIDIAN 5 Series — a trio of high-performance shoes designed to meet the needs of marathon veterans, serious amateurs, and aspiring first-timers alike. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR The FEIDIAN 5 line-up includes three carbon-plated models, each tuned for a specific type of runner: the FEIDIAN 5 Ultra , aimed at sub-3-hour marathoners and podium chasers; the FEIDIAN 5 Elite , dubbed “the Vaporfly of Li-Ning” by fans for its speed and energy return; and the FEIDIAN 5 Challenger , a more accessible super trainer built for everyday runners and tempo work. Together, they signal a new era of carbon-plated inclusivity — where elite tech is available for every pace and purpose. FEIDIAN 5 Ultra: Built for the Bold The FEIDIAN 5 Ultra is Li-Ning’s top-tier racing weapon — a no-compromise, high-performance shoe engineered for runners chasing personal bests under 3 hours. The Ultra is lightweight yet loaded with propulsion, thanks to its Boom Fiber™ upper coupled with dual-layer SUPER BOOM and full-length Aerospace-grade T1000 carbon plate. With a 39.5mm heel and 31.5mm forefoot stack, the shoe rides close to World Athletics’ legal limit, delivering maximum energy return and explosive toe-offs. The ultra-light upper wraps the foot like a glove, reducing drag and dialing in precision fit for those with efficient running mechanics and aggressive race goals. This shoe is for the most experienced runners — those who treat the marathon not as a milestone, but as a battlefield. If you’re chasing the front pack or shaving minutes off an already fast time, the FEIDIAN 5 Ultra is built for you. Shoe Tech Highlights SUPER BOOM : A revolutionary PEBAX-based midsole material with a density as low as 0.07g/cm3. Carbon Plate: Full-length Aerospace-grade T1000 Carbon Plate PHOTO: LI-NING SINGAPORE JIANG : An innovative shock absorption and resilience technology by combining structural shock absorption with material shock absorption, it can quickly feedback the stored energy through compression and deformation of the structure during movement, so as to make the movement rebound faster and more significant, and effectively reduce the risk of knee and ankle injuries. PHOTO: LI-NING SINGAPORE Ground Control Unit (GCU) : An advanced outsole technology utilising a series of specialised materials. Through different molecular structures, it resolves the conflict between slip resistance and wear resistance of traditional rubbers, achieving simultaneous improvements in both grip and durability. Dual Stage Assist Curves : Dual-Stage Assist Curves, a structure technology deriving from the first and second assist curves, achieves a dual-stage assistance effect in the forefoot and midfoot, significantly improving the endurance of running energy. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR FEIDIAN 5 Elite: Vaporfly Vibes, Everyday Accessibility Not every runner chasing a fast marathon is ready for the harsh rigidity of a top-end racer. Enter the FEIDIAN 5 Elite , a model that balances speed with versatility, making it ideal for competitive runners aiming between 3 to 4 hour marathon finishes. Weighing just slightly more than the Ultra, the Elite still features a full-length Aerospace-grade T1000 carbon plate and a single-layer SUPER BOOM midsole that offers responsive cushioning and excellent bounce. With a 40mm heel and 32mm forefoot stack, it meets the needs of long-distance road racers who want to go fast but still crave a touch of comfort over 42 kilometres. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR “The FEIDIAN 5 Elite are meant for pure race day efforts and I think a lot of that comes down to how light and springy the Elite felt underfoot,” says Haw Jiaxuan, a 25-year-old amateur marathoner from Singapore. “It gave me the speed of a Vaporfly but with better stability. I didn’t feel beat up at the end.” That stability comes from its wider base and well-balanced geometry, giving runners more margin for error over longer efforts. If you’ve been racing in plated shoes before and are looking for a reliable upgrade, the FEIDIAN 5 Elite hits the sweet spot between performance and control. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Shoe Tech Highlights SUPER BOOM : A revolutionary PEBAX-based midsole material with a density as low as 0.07g/cm3. Carbon Plate: Full-length Aerospace-grade T1000 Carbon Plate APEX PROPULSION: Capable of assisting runners when pushing off with their forefoot enabled by the bionic design of the pillow-shaped shafts under the metatarsus and in combination with the bending stiffness of the built-in support plate in the bottom material. Thus, with the help of the lever principle, it can greatly improve running efficiency and performance. Ground Control Unit (GCU) : An advanced outsole technology utilising a series of specialised materials. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR FEIDIAN 5 Challenger: Carbon for the People For runners just beginning their journey or those looking to bring super shoe tech into their everyday training, the FEIDIAN 5 Challenger is a breakthrough. It offers a full-length Aerospace-grade T700 carbon plate encased in SUPER BOOM + BOOM midsole foam but in a more forgiving, cushioned package. At approximately 230 grams, it’s slightly heavier than its elite siblings, but that extra weight brings with it durability and comfort. With a stack height of 36mm in the heel and 28mm in the forefoot, the Challenger offers a soft but responsive feel that works great for tempo runs, long intervals, or even race day for beginners. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR “I’ve been wearing my FEIDIAN 5 Challenger for both up tempo and training runs and they've been both comfortable and versatile,” shares Keafy, a 28-year-old marketing professional. “I like that you don't have to break the bank to invest in a pair of carbon plated shoes, and feel that this is a good pair for entry level runners who would like to experience what it's like to wear a pair plated shoes.” For new runners intimidated by the aggressive nature of most super shoes, the Challenger provides an inviting entry point. It’s not just a training shoe — it’s a bridge to your next breakthrough. Shoe Tech Highlights SUPER BOOM + BOOM Midsole : A revolutionary PEBAX-based midsole material with a density as low as 0.07g/cm3. Carbon Plate : Full-length Aerospace-grade T700 Carbon Plate Ground Control Unit (GCU) : An advanced outsole technology utilising a series of specialised materials. Through different molecular structures, it resolves the conflict between slip resistance and wear resistance of traditional rubbers, achieving simultaneous improvements in both grip and durability. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Which FEIDIAN 5 Series Shoe is Right for You? Choosing the right shoe from the FEIDIAN 5 Series depends largely on your experience level, racing goals, and running style. - NBA Rising Stars Invitational 2025 Ignites Singapore with Future Hoops Icons
NBA Rising Stars Ambassadors Ryan Dunn, Oso Ighodaro and Keisei Tominaga hope to make impact on the future of basketball talents across Asia PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR This is a feature article written by SportPlus.sg for Kallang Alive Sports Management. For more sports events, programmes and human stories of Singapore Sports Hub , visit the Singapore Sports Hub's ' Here to Play' website . The NBA Rising Stars Invitational (RSI) 2025 tipped off in spectacular fashion at the iconic Singapore Sports Hub , bringing with it the energy of the league’s brightest young prospects and a vision to inspire the next generation of basketball athletes across Asia. Leading the charge this year are three official NBA Rising Stars Ambassadors: Ryan Dunn and Oso Ighodaro from the Phoenix Suns, and Keisei Tominaga , the electric sharpshooter from Levanga Hokkaido in Japan’s B.League. More than just emerging talents, these athletes are in Singapore with a mission — to grow the game, connect with young fans, and represent what’s next in global basketball. Ambassadors of the Game: Giving Back and Growing the Sport PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Ryan Dunn: Impacting the Next Generation Fresh off his rookie season with the Phoenix Suns, Ryan Dunn has quickly developed a reputation for elite defense, maturity, and leadership beyond his years. Now, as an RSI ambassador, he's focused on paying it forward to rising players across Asia. “It means a lot,” said Dunn. “I just want to impact the next generation behind me. Being able to come out here and pour knowledge toward these kids — same as when I was their age and wanted to be where all these great players are — I’m grateful to give that back, and to grow as a player and as a person.” When asked what young Singaporean and Southeast Asian athletes can learn from his journey to the NBA, Dunn emphasized the importance of sacrifice. “It takes a lot of sacrifice to get here,” he said. “A lot of hard work, especially at a young age. You need a good support system, and a good balance in life. It all pans out in the end, no matter where you’re from.” This marks Dunn’s first time in Singapore — and the experience has already left a lasting impression. “It’s been great,” he said. “The Sports Hub is beautiful. I love how kids of all ages can come out and play basketball, volleyball, tennis — whatever they want. It gives them a good outlet to be who they want to be.” PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Oso Ighodaro: Growing Together On and Off the Court Oso Ighodaro, who also joined the Suns alongside Dunn, shares a bond rooted in hard work and vision — both of which are on display in Singapore. “It’s great,” said Ighodaro. “Me and Ryan came in together at the same time. We’re very like-minded in our work ethics and values, so to experience all this together has been special.” As Southeast Asia’s appetite for basketball grows rapidly, Ighodaro believes playing in front of fans here brings a different kind of energy. “I think it’s just the excitement,” he said. “People out here don’t get to see NBA basketball as often, so there’s that added level of appreciation. Just being out here and seeing the love for the game has been huge.” Having spent the week training and engaging with fans around the Singapore Sports Hub, Ighodaro was visibly impressed by the venue. “Just look around — you’ve got beach volleyball courts, the water, the view of the skyline. It’s beautiful,” he said. “A great spot and a great hub for athletic activities.” PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Keisei Tominaga: Bringing Asian Firepower to the World Stage Japan’s Keisei Tominaga has become a fan favorite across Asia, known for his elite shooting and confident swagger. After stints in the G League and now the B.League, he’s on a mission to close the gap between Asian and NBA-level basketball. “There are a lot of differences between playing in America and Japan,” said Tominaga. “But Japanese basketball is growing so much. I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned back to Japan — and to share that with players there.” Tominaga returns to Singapore after playing at the FIBA Intercontinental Cup last year — an experience he still treasures. “It was amazing,” he recalled. “A lot of fans, a lot of support. I felt that love. I’m really happy to be back.” “I’ll tell them to just have fun, compete, and try to get better,” he said. “You don’t get many opportunities like this.” But for Tominaga, the bigger picture is what motivates him most. “That’s one thing I think about when I play — the kids watching, the ones trying to be like me,” he said. “That’s the most special part.” Singapore Sports Hub: A Home for Global Hoops The Singapore Sports Hub continues to shine as a premier destination for world-class sporting events. From elite facilities to its scenic waterfront surroundings, it’s more than just a venue — it’s a cultural hub where local dreams meet global stars. With ambassadors like Dunn, Ighodaro, and Tominaga leading the way, the NBA Rising Stars Invitational 2025 is more than an exhibition — it’s a statement. A celebration of global talent. A beacon for Southeast Asian youth. And a powerful reminder that the next great basketball story can begin anywhere — even right here in Singapore. #mySgSportsHub #NBARisingStarsInvitational
- Forging Unbreakable Family Bonds through HYROX: Shane Yeap and Yeap Soon Leong
This father and son duo saw HYROX as the perfect father-son bonding opportunity PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR This is a feature article written by SportPlus.sg for Kallang Alive Sports Management. For more sports events, programmes and human stories of Singapore Sports Hub , visit the Singapore Sports Hub's 'Here to Play' website . Last weekend saw the Singapore National Stadium hold a record-breaking AIA HYROX Open Asian Championships , with over 12,000 athletes taking part over the two days—and it’s not the first time HYROX Singapore has broken a competition record. Last year’s edition at the Singapore Sports Hub was the largest single-day HYROX in the world. With eight physically demanding functional fitness stations—each preceded by a 1km run—HYROX is a sport that demands grit, determination, and unwavering self-belief. But it’s not all about competition. For some, it’s all part of building a connection with a loved one. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Part of the history-making event was father and son duo, Shane Yeap and Yeap Soon Leong, who competed in the men’s doubles on Sunday. The pair powered through the eight stations, finishing with a time of 01:52:31. “This was entirely Shane’s idea! He wanted it to be a bonding experience which I gladly accepted,” said Soon Leong with a sheepish grin, pointing toward his son when asked who had come up with the idea. “At first, dad said no!” laughed Shane. “He was very hesitant to do it. He was worried about holding me back but I said ‘Don’t worry, just take it as a bonding experience’ and he said ‘Okay, let’s do it!’” PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR “Now, I’m so glad that I did it with him. It was more than bonding, I depended on him and leaned on him for support. He was basically encouraging me and pulling me along, reassuring me that my pace was okay and telling me to take it easy. I’m very thankful we did that together as a doubles pair,” added Soon Leong as the two pulled each other close. Now in his 60s, Soon Leong had previously taken part in a marathon with his son. They ran the 42.195km race separately though—making HYROX their first ever event together. The duo got off to a strong start, with Soon Leong powering through much of the first station, the SkiErg, much to his son’s admiration. With music blaring through the speakers, family, friends and supporters all cheering you on, it’s impossible not to feel the energy surge through you. For Soon Leong, it was also the rare opportunity to compete in the National Stadium that willed him on. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR "There's the thrill of being in the National Stadium. Usually we’re here as spectators but this time we’re here as competitors. That adds to the novelty and makes it a more special experience,” he shared. “This is my first sporting event at the Singapore Sports Hub. My impression is that the event was really well organised. Everything from registration, check in, everything has been really smooth. There hasn't been any point of friction. Our family is here and I think it’s been really spectator-friendly. It’s all been a positive experience,” added Shane. As their loved ones watched them power from station to station, the pair’s legs began to tire, and they found themselves having to change up the gameplan. This however, only strengthened the camaraderie between the Yeaps. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR “We adjusted on the fly according to how my dad was feeling but he did really well, and did as much as he could. Like you saw on the burpees, he went really fast,” gushed the 31-year-old, beaming with pride for his dad. While the original idea was for Shane to start the sleds and wall balls, Soon Leong admitted that he needed Shane to be the first to take on most of the stations, and to take it easy on the laps around the stadium. “For me, the standout moment of us depending on each other was when I asked him, ‘Can we walk from here to there first, then run after that?’ He graciously agreed to it,” laughed Soon Leong, prompting his son to admit that he was secretly more than happy to walk. For Soon Leong, his son’s way of pushing him was his proudest moment of the race, so much so that the pride he felt for Shane—who spent 12 years in the Singapore Army and who is now a fitness coach—was unmistakable to anyone watching the duo compete. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR “I’m most proud of the way Shane helped me along, encouraged me and made it possible for me to finish. The way we cooperated and worked as a team, and most of all, the way he was able to bear most of the load at the stations and did it willingly and graciously. Doing it with Shane made it more pleasurable, satisfying and meaningful to me,” shared a proud Soon Leong. And the pride went both ways. It was in the final lap of the run towards the wall balls, where Soon Leong’s legs began to seize up, but there was no stopping him. The two pressed on with a brisk walk, and with grit and determination thick in the air at the National Stadium, Soon Leong was set on getting a few wall ball reps in—and he did just that. “My dad’s perseverance really stood out. He could’ve stopped but he kept going. Even when we got to the wall balls, he was still cramping but he tried his best to get a few reps in. I’m proud of my dad for finishing and pushing through his cramps!" "Not just today, but leading up to the event, he trained diligently week after week by himself. I’m really proud of the way he prepared really hard for this. Not all went to how we planned but despite that, he pushed through and got the job done,” said Shane. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Now, HYROX Singapore has easily become one of their most treasured memories, something Shane hopes more families can experience. “It’s not just for father-sons, mother-daughters, mother-son, father-daughters, whatever! Get the whole family in for the relay! Hopefully we can get my mum in for the relay next year,” joked Shane, shooting a cheeky grin at his mother, who laughed at his son’s mischief. Soon Leong was on board with the idea but had one crucial piece of advice for anyone thinking of taking part. “I fully agree, with the additional caveat that you must do proper physical conditioning before so it’s more fun rather than torture!” #HYROXSG #mySgSportsHub

- Train Hard, Play Hard: Norah Paul Gabriel Targets Title in Her Final Asian Youth Netball Championship
After losing out to Malaysia in the previous edition, Team Singapore netballer Norah Paul Gabriel is hungry for redemption, in what will be her last Asian Youth Netball Championship PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR This is a feature article written by SportPlus.sg for Kallang Alive Sports Management. For more sports events, programmes and human stories of Singapore Sports Hub, visit the Singapore Sports Hub's 'Here to Play' website . It was heartbreak for the Singapore U21 Netball team two years ago at the 2023 Asian Youth Netball Championships , when they lost the title to Malaysia in the finals in Jeonju, South Korea. It’s a memory that’s still vivid in most of the players. This year, they’re out for redemption. Now already back in Jeonju, where heartbreak struck two years ago, the team is fired up and ready for another shot at the title. The Singaporeans have reached three consecutive finals at the Asian Youth Netball Championships, facing off against their Causeway rivals each time. They triumphed the first time in 2017, but fell to the Malaysians in both 2019 and 2023. For Norah Paul Gabriel , who was a key player at the 2023 edition, lifting that trophy on 4th July will be bittersweet, and is something she wants— bad . PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR “I really want to win!” she laughed—but you could tell she meant every word. “It’ll be really amazing for me because it’ll be my last one. I won’t be eligible anymore. I don't know what the future holds for me in Singapore Netball so it’ll be really special to win my last one.” Norah, who often plays in the center of the court, rose up the ranks from the U14s all the way to the Opens, which she was called up to at the ripe age of 18. The experience she gained playing with the senior team at a young age was invaluable, despite the little bit of imposter syndrome she faced. Learning from Her Teammates “I was the youngest there at the time so I was like, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing here,’” she said shyly, before adding that she did learn a lot from her teammates. “They took me under their wing, taught me and guided me in-game. They were really nice, thankfully, and that was very helpful.” It was then though, when everything seemed to crumble for the bright-eyed 18-year-old. Just as she began making waves with the Opens, Norah was hit with a serious injury—one of the most dreaded ones amongst athletes. Her comeback however, is her proudest moment of her career so far. “I tore my ACL when I was 18 when I first got put into the Opens squad. Then my first tournament back, which was my first major tournament, was the Asian Youths in 2023. I was really happy because it wasn't easy and I was only 18. It was hard. Looking back, I’m quite happy with the way I played coming back from my ACL,” she recollected fondly. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Norah also credits one particular teammate—both a friend and a role model—for helping her through the dark tunnel. “The teammate I look up to is Rachel Ling. She’s one of my good friends off the court too and I really enjoy hanging out with her! She’s really motivating. When I tore my ACL, she was there for me. I’m really proud of her actually because she played in the recent UAE Netball Cup and she was really amazing,” gushed Nora. “I want to be like her! She’s not that much older than me, but because she plays in a similar position as me, it’s easy to learn from her. She’s very committed in defence as a center and I find that amazing. It’s something I look up to and I strive to be like that.” Spending much of their time at Singapore Sports Hub , home to Singapore Netball amongst many others, Norah has bonded with many of her teammates here—calling it her second home before her move to Australia. “My Kampung at Kallang Wave Mall is my favourite place here. It’s where my teammates and I go after gym training. We have lots of good memories there because of the post gym chit-chat and we chill there until it closes. It’s great bonding with each other, those are my favourite memories at Singapore Sports Hub,” she shared. “If we didn't have Singapore Sports Institute (SSI) and the court here, it’d be hard for us to find courts to train at. I feel like for me at least, this is one of the best courts. I love this court! We've also got the track at the 100PLUS Promenade so if we’re not training and want to run, we can use that too.” PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG / HANA BASIR Now based in Melbourne, Australia, pursuing both her academics and netball, Norah shared that it had always been her dream to study overseas. But she just couldn’t leave netball behind. With the help of Netball Singapore, the Monash University student said it “all went hand-in-hand” when she found a club to play and train with alongside her studies Down Under. “I think it’s definitely harder training with the girls there. The skill level in Australia is higher so I think it’s definitely challenging for me but I feel like I've been adapting well. I’ve learned a lot from the girls and the coaches. They have a different style of coaching too so it’s something I’ve had to adapt to but I think I've been doing pretty well and I’ve been enjoying myself,” she smiled. Training with the highly-skilled players in Australia, coupled with her experience at the 2023 Asian Youth Netball Championships, Norah highlights the need for consistency in the team—which they hope to improve on this year after their second placed finish two years ago. “Obviously, it wasn't ideal to come in second but we weren't consistent in our game and we could have done better in that. I think moving forward, bringing that into a new team, we have to play simple netball and be consistent so we can win,” explained the center, who then had this to say to her teammates in Jeonju. “Maybe just play your best! There’s no stress. Leave everything on the court. If you have a bad game, it’s okay. Just move on from it and take the lessons from that game and bring it to the next one. Don’t dwell on things. Train hard, play hard!” #NetballSG #TeamSG
- Kyoto Seika and Yongsan High School Clinch Dominant Wins at Inaugural NBA Rising Stars Invitational in Singapore
Asia’s top high school basketball talent lights up Kallang as NBA’s first regional youth tournament sets the stage for future stars PHOTO: NBA RISING STARS INVITATIONAL SINGAPORE, 30 JUNE 2025 – The NBA Rising Stars Invitational 2025 concluded its debut edition with a spectacular showcase of elite youth basketball talent from across Asia-Pacific, culminating in commanding victories by Kyoto Seika Gakuen Senior High School (Japan) in the girls’ final, and Yongsan High School (South Korea) in the boys’ championship game at the Kallang Tennis Hub in Singapore. With over 1,100 fans in attendance and basketball royalty—including NBA All-Star Domantas Sabonis, WNBA legend Lauren Jackson, and B.LEAGUE sharpshooter Keisei Tominaga—watching courtside, the two-day event made a powerful statement: Asia’s next generation of basketball stars has arrived. PHOTO: NBA RISING STARS INVITATIONAL Unstoppable Kyoto Seika Storm to Girls' Title In one of the most one-sided victories of the tournament, Kyoto Seika Gakuen Senior High School (JPN) overwhelmed Onyang Girls’ High School (KOR) with a 109–40 final scoreline. From the opening tip-off, the Japanese side displayed superior tactical execution, led by tournament MVP Hikari Yoshida, who guided the team with poise, speed, and relentless offensive pressure. Their aggressive full-court press and transition game left the Korean side struggling, with a field goal percentage of just 20.3% compared to Kyoto’s 50%. The Japanese team also capitalised on free throws and controlled both boards, leaving little room for a Korean comeback. PHOTO: NBA RISING STARS INVITATIONAL Captain Mika Sakaguchi reflected on the victory: “We’re honoured to be the first champions of the NBA Rising Stars Invitational. This experience has made us stronger, and we’ve learned so much from facing such physical and fast-paced opponents.” PHOTO: NBA RISING STARS INVITATIONAL Yongsan High Dominates the Boys’ Final in Style The boys’ final saw Yongsan High School (KOR) overpower Tsinghua University High School (CHN) in a commanding 97–48 win. Fueled by MVP Kim Min-gi, team captain Daniel Edi, and forward Kim Tae-in, the Korean side combined for 60 points, executing a dynamic, high-tempo offense that left the Chinese team struggling to respond. Despite entering the game with modest expectations, Yongsan’s strategic adjustments—focusing on high-percentage two-point plays and fast-break opportunities—proved decisive. “We had nothing to lose, so we gave it our all,” said MVP Kim Min-gi. “Winning this title and MVP in a tournament like this is something I’ll never forget.” PHOTO: NBA RISING STARS INVITATIONAL Rising Stars Invitational: A New Era for Asian Youth Basketball Held from June 25–29, the NBA Rising Stars Invitational marked the league’s first regional high school tournament, bringing together boys’ and girls’ teams from 11 countries across Asia-Pacific. Hosted by NBA Singapore in partnership with Sport Singapore (SportSG) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the event is part of a broader initiative to grow basketball across Asia through youth-focused programming and elite competition platforms. Beyond competition, the tournament emphasized cultural exchange, with teams gaining invaluable experience competing internationally—many for the first time. PHOTO: NBA RISING STARS INVITATIONAL “This was our first time playing outside of Japan,” said Kyoto Seika head coach Tsunayoshi Yamamoto. “We were nervous, but the support and hospitality helped us stay focused. More than the results, what we value most is the cultural exchange and learning we gained.” NBA All-Star Domantas Sabonis praised the talent on display: “These young athletes are doing things we never even dreamed of at their age. It’s amazing to see how the game continues to evolve around the world.” PHOTO: NBA RISING STARS INVITATIONAL A Promising Future for Youth Basketball in Asia With its resounding success, the NBA Rising Stars Invitational has laid the foundation for a bright future for youth basketball in Asia. From unforgettable performances to valuable cross-cultural experiences, the tournament has sparked a new level of excitement for the sport in the region. Whether it was the fierce competitiveness of Kyoto Seika and Yongsan High, or the energy of the sold-out crowd, one thing is clear: the next generation of basketball talent in Asia is rising—and the world is watching. #Basketball #NBARisingStarsInvitational
- Open-Ear Headphones that Keep You Safe As You Workout: OlaDance OWS Pro
Beautiful aesthetics, unbeatable sound-quality and superior battery life are just a few of the key features of the Oladance OWS Pro open ear earbuds, find out more in our review PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG The case for open-ear design headphones has been on the rise with several high profile accidents involving runners making the news in recent years, as we continue to witness an increase in participation of the sport even after Covid restrictions have been lifted. Not only are open-ear designed earbuds considered safer overall, they also bring the added benefit of allowing you to continue to be social and chat with your friends as you workout. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG What are Open-Ear Headphones / Earbuds? Unlike semi-open and fully closed wireless earbuds, which cover the opening of your ear canals, open-ear headphones or earbuds have the benefit of not having the earbuds plugged into your ear canals. This is widely deemed as a more hygienic and safer option, as it allows you to be aware of your surroundings even as you run or exercise. But in a world where we are spoilt for choice when it comes to wireless earbuds, just how do you know what features to consider before purchasing the right ones for yourself? Here we break down some of the key things you may wish to look at before making your purchase. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG Sound Quality Sound quality probably tops the list when it comes to any headphones or earbuds. This usually depends on the codecs that are used, and one should consider the frequency response, which is essential for accurate and balanced sound. Battery Life Having a pair of headphones or earbuds that die on you midway through your run or workout ain't fun. Trust me, it happened to me very recently in a half marathon event I was running and I had to run the rest of the race without music. Not a fun experience. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG Easy-To-Use Controls Not everyone likes to toggle through songs on their favourite workout playlist through the phone. Many prefer the ease and convenience of doing so directly via the earbuds. Having easy-to-use controls helps to deliver an overall smoother experience which would increase user satisfaction for most audiophiles. Noise Cancellation Features Being able to hear your music even in loud environments has been a key feature that most consider before making their purchase. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG Safety Then again, if you’re running outside, you would want to get a pair of headphones or earbuds that offer safety features that allow you to still be conscious of your surroundings. Oladance OWS Pro So which earbuds are deemed to be the best fit for athletes or individuals with an active lifestyle? At SportPlus.sg we believe the OlaDance OWS Pro is the go-to option when it comes to wireless earbuds for sports in 2023. With its sleek looking design that is both fashionable and futuristic, this set of open-ear earbuds also comes with some pretty cool tech in a case that can recharge the earbuds. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG Noise Cancellation when in Focus Mode While open-ear design headphones inevitably suffer from poorer sound quality than fully closed earbuds overall, Oladance has mitigated those issues to offer superior sound quality with its focus mode, which kills a very specific band of higher-pitched frequencies when indoors. Even when outdoors, each pair of Oladance OWS Pro is equipped with six microphones to cancel out excess external sound waves and separate human voice from environmental noise, making it possible for conversations even amidst strong winds. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG Bluetooth Multipoint More good news is that you can also use each earbud independently, or even mix and match earbuds from different sets of Oladance OWS Pros to make them into a stereo pair. This is available through Bluetooth Multipoint support, which is one reason why you might want to pick them over most of its competitors, which can only handle one Bluetooth connection at a time. Superior Battery Life Oladance claims the OWS Pro has 16 hours of playtime on a single charge, and a total of 58 hours when you include the charging case. That makes these the only open-ear earbuds you can buy that will give you a full day’s worth of use. Should you actually run them dry, a 15-minute rapid charge will buy you an extra six hours. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG We sat down with three of @sportplus.sg’s creators and asked them their thoughts about the Oladance OWS Pro ear phones. What did they have to say? Find out here! Sharon Choo ( @iamschoo ) 1. How is your experience with the Oladance earbuds? I would liken it to having an elevated personal home theatre on the go. 2. What do you think of its open ear concept, where you can hear your surroundings while listening to the music? I think it’s great because it allows me to remain aware of my surroundings while listening to music, especially if I am crossing the roads or at night which might not be so safe in quiet parks. I feel it’s important to have that awareness of my surroundings. 3. Have you tried focus mode? What do you like about it? The focus mode noise reduction technology does help me to focus better if I am using the earbuds for meetings so it ensures clarity. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG 4. What is your favourite feature of the OWS Pro earbuds? I really like the aesthetics of the earbuds. Mine is the titanium chrome version, so I think it’s really beautiful. With that, even when I’m traveling and taking the public transport system I use the earbuds to elevate my overall look. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG Chermaine Zhou ( @xoxochermaine ) 1.What is your favourite feature of the Oladance OWS Pro? Having never used an open ear concept earphone before, I was uncertain how comfortable one would feel, however, after using the Oladance OWS Pro, it pleasantly surprised me with its excellent stability for highly intensive activities like running and cycling yet comfortable for all-day wear and light enough to forget I'm even wearing them! The powerful bass enhances my music experience, and the focus mode lets me fully immerse myself in my tunes. It's the perfect choice for my active, music-loving lifestyle to hype me up or when I'm going about my day. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG 2. Why do you think the open ear concept is important for you? As a long distance road runner, I'm often out running on the roads and running beside pedestrian or even bicycle traffic. The open ear concept keeps me connected to my surrounding sounds and in charge of my safety while still immersing myself in my music. Safety always comes first! PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG 3. What do you think of its battery life? With most normal earbuds giving only about 10-12 hours of battery life, the Oladance OWS Pro continues to amaze me with almost 16 hours of battery life and up to 58 hours with the charging case. In runner math, that’s able to last you a few full marathons right there. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG John Yeong ( @thejohnyeong ) What is your favourite feature of the OWS Pro? I love “focus mode” the most, as it allows me to continue to be social and chat with my friends - be it whether I am working out or at work as it creates a bubble around me to enjoy my music while tuning out ambient noises which may be distracting. How do these compare to previous earphones you have used for your runs? Oladance OWS Pro's amazing battery life has meant I can go for multiple long runs on a single charge - this was an issue with my previous earphones which died on me more than once. Once even during a race at the Gold Coast Half-marathon, and it wasn’t a pleasant experience having to run the rest of the race without music. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG What do you think is the biggest drawback for the Oladance OWS Pro? From what I understand the fit can be an issue for those with much smaller ears, so I would strongly encourage people to try them out if necessary before purchase. Make sure it’s a good fit for you that way you can fully enjoy and appreciate what the earbuds have to offer you. What activities do you think the Oladance OWS Pro is best suited for? I would say they're perfect for long runs, and last longer than other earphones in this price tier, and the sound is unbeatable. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG The Oladance OWS Pro open-ear earbuds is going for $339 and is now available at Leader Radio Technologies in five colours here .
