  • ASICS Launches GEL-NIMBUS™ 25, the Most Comfortable Running Shoe as Tested by Runners

All-new GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 features PureGEL™ technology for softer-than-ever landings and 20% more FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO cushioning for the most comfortable running experience PHOTO: ASICS SINGAPORE 10 January 2023, Singapore – ASICS has launched the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 running shoes, the most comfortable running shoe*, designed to help everyone experience the uplifting power of running on the body and mind. Rated by runners as the number 1 in comfort in an independent test by The Biomechanics Lab in South Australia, the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 offers more cushioning and softer landings for the most comfortable running experience. PHOTO: ASICS SINGAPORE The GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 features new PureGEL™ technology which is softer than previous GEL™ technology, creating the softest landings to date. The PureGEL™ technology which is not visible from the outside is strategically integrated in the midsole to deliver enhanced shock absorption and smoother transitions. Designed to provide improved underfoot comfort, the shoe comes with new lightweight and energetic FF BLAST™ PLUS ECO cushioning, featuring 20% more foam compared to previous iterations. The foam is made from at least 20% bio-based material from renewable sources such as leftover waste from sugar case processing. PHOTO: ASICS SINGAPORE A new soft, yet breathable and stretchy knit tongue and collar construction deliver an easier step-in and a more adaptive fit, helping the shoe to feel like an extension of the foot and make each stride more comfortable and smooth. Laura Bolgen, Senior Manager Global Product Line, Performance Running Footwear at ASICS said: “Following ASICS design philosophy, we use athlete wear testing, biomechanical research, sustainable methods and decades of craftmanship to create products that feel best for both body and mind. For the development of the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25, we set the bar very high. PHOTO: ASICS SINGAPORE We knew that our ambitious goal of 'creating the most comfortable running shoe' was one that would require even more design and development work as well as internal and external testing and consumer validation. As a team, we’re incredible proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish throughout the 18+ months of tireless development work, and we hope that every runner will feel the difference that this uniquely comfortable GEL-NIMBUS model has to offer.” Independent comfort test by The Biomechanics Lab, South Australia ASICS Global commissioned Dr Chris Bishop PhD from The Biomechanics Lab in South Australia to design and deliver an independent study to compare the comfort of the new GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 shoe to three leading competitor shoes and its predecessor, the GEL-NIMBUS™ 24. PHOTO: ASICS SINGAPORE The research study explored three primary research questions, including, most importantly: Is the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 a more comfortable running shoe than the four comparator shoes tested? 100 runners (52 men, 48 women) were recruited for this study, which took place over an eight-week period. Study participants ran in all five pairs of shoes which were made to be completely unrecognizable, so no brand or design biases came into effect. The test participants had to run on an instrumented treadmill at a pace of 10km/hour for three minutes and were asked to rate the comfort of each shoe based on various comfort related criteria, including heel cushioning, forefoot cushioning, shoe stability and forefoot flexibility. PHOTO: ASICS SINGAPORE An independent statistical analysis of the results using three different measurement models was conducted and the results were clear: The GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 was rated as the number one in comfort. Dr Chris Bishop PhD, podiatrist and adjunct research fellow at the University of South Australia explained: “Comfort is a perception factor which is not a biomechanical variable and it’s not the same for every individual. However, the results of this study were conclusive: the GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 was statistically the most comfortable running shoe tested .” The GEL-NIMBUS™ 25 is available for men and women from ASICS retail, online stores and specialists running outlets globally from 1 February 2023 for S$259. #ASICSSG #NothingFeelsBetter #GELNIMBUS25

Homegrown Fitness Gym FiiTBOXX unveils technology-led boutique high-intensity training (HIIT) studio PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Tucked away at the corner of Joo Chiat Road and Fowlie Road, FiiTBOXX is a home-grown premium boutique fitness gym. A one-stop strength, cardio, and functional training facility founded by Ken Mok, a former senior executive with over 20 years of experience that includes leading several big box gyms across the region, the gym is built with technology at the forefront of its design and welcomes participants of all levels. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG With a clear focus on outcome driven workouts supported by data and technology, FiitBOXX places a huge emphasis on workouts that are catered even to entry level participants with little to no fitness experience. The 2,600 square feet (first floor) year-old facility is protected by facial recognition technology - that allows members access into the gym at odd hours to do their own workouts even staff are off duty - offering the convenience the modern busy working adult needs. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Beyond its impressive suite of equipment on the first floor, FiitBOXX recently launched its own boutique high-intensity training (HIIT) studio, FOXX on the upper level - designed to revolutionise traditional HIIT workouts while providing a strong community experience. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG HIIT Classes: What to Expect Labelled as Into The Zone (ITZ) Series, HIIT classes at FOXX comprise an intensive circuit training programme combining cardio with strength and boxing, as participants move across a total of five zones in each class, that usually last approximately 45 minutes. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Guided by huge vertical screens across the studio, participants need not worry about forgetting which exercise is coming up next - even if they have arrived a little late for the pre-class demonstration from instructors. Workouts are also a good variety, with FOXX guaranteeing that no workouts are repeated on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that members and participants get a good mix and holistic fitness experience. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG HIIT classes are energetic and pretty high octane once the lights go off and lasers come on, but urged on by very friendly and encouraging instructors, who are patient enough to correct participants on their form and what they are doing wrong - making it easy to follow and suitable even for beginners and individuals with no prior fitness experience. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Techology-Driven Keeping in mind that technology drives almost everything at FiiTBOXX and FOXX, lockers are also operated on a facial-recognition model, with participants not needing to worry about hanging onto keys or which locker they used to keep their bags in. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Perhaps its most useful tech tool to help every member along their fitness journey, is a myZone heart-rate monitor belt that is give out to each participant at the start of class. The objective is to help instructors monitor each participant's progress during class, and to help them reach optimal workout intensities - heart rate zones 4 or 5 (red/yellow), or to reduce effort accordingly should any participant be over-exerting himself or herself. • Rock The Naked Truth Celebrates 7th Anniversary with 5KM Shirtless Run

Body positivity movement event attracts 150 participants at Sentosa, in a bid to encourage everyone to accept their own bodies regardless of shape and size PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH You don’t need washboard abs or a flat stomach to take your top off for a run. You just need confidence. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH Understandably, some might be shy or embarrassed about their bodies, thus the objective of this shirtless run is to encourage people to be proud of their bodies and not worry about what others might think. The truth is no one cares. For more event photos, visit our SportPlus.sg photo gallery here. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH This shirtless run is in celebration of the seventh anniversary of my body positivity movement Rock The Naked Truth. It honestly doesn’t feel like seven years, especially when we missed the fifth and sixth anniversaries because of the pandemic, but here I am, taking off my shirt alongside 150 runners to commemorate this occasion. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH When I first conceptualised this, I was a little worried that I might struggle to get sign-ups. Thus, I am beyond grateful to see so many people show up early on a Saturday morning for this. There were people across different age ranges, from toddlers to seniors, in all shapes and sizes. For more event photos, visit our SportPlus.sg photo gallery here. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH The program was simple – gather, take your top off, run or walk 5km and earn a limited edition Rock The Naked Truth x Skechers singlet. I know it sounds a little ironic – take off your top to earn a top, but that’s the fun in it! PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH Participants were also given a special Skechers water bottle that had a colour-changing Rock The Naked Truth logo – the logo turns from white to teal when the liquid in the bottle is cold. This gift is really from the heart because my partner and I spent Christmas carving out the logo decal and sticking them onto the bottles – all 150 of them. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH In the name of sustainability, these bottles were then used for hydration with a recovery drink from BIX, courtesy of Red Dot Running Company. That’s not all – participants also got to take home a BOCO Gear mask and a Blue Q toothbrush that had very quirky messages on it. For more event photos, visit our SportPlus.sg photo gallery here. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH I always have a lucky draw for these anniversary events and we had some amazing prizes from Leader Radio Technologies (WeAreReady.sg), Skechers and Red Dot Running Company. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH The top prize was not one, but two units of the TORRAS Coolify 2, a portable wearable air conditioner which is exactly what we need in Singapore’s hot and humid weather. I couldn’t have asked for more – the weather was lovely, 150 people showed up to run without their tops in support of body positivity and I got to celebrate Rock The Naked Truth’s seventh anniversary in (shirtless) style. My former members of my running club ROCKrunners also came back to volunteer as crew. PHOTO: ROCK THE NAKED TRUTH It felt so good bringing the running community together for a good cause. This may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but for many of us, it really takes a lot for us to take off our shirts in public. So to all those who took a big step today, you deserve a big pat on the back. I am so proud of you! • Five Self-Care Exercises to help you Unwind in 2023

Over training is risky and could lead to injuries and poor performance, the key really is balance PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG In the hustle and bustle of life, it is inevitable we will feel overwhelmed at times. While stress can motivate performance, constant stress will deteriorate both our mental and physical health. Moderate exercise is one of the quickest ways to release endorphin, a hormone that promotes relaxation and relieves pain. Here’s five simple exercises to become a healthier you this new year. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Walking While one may not have the time to hit the gym every day, a short walk works wonders too. Taking a stroll after dinner or even by walking from one bus stop to another can help the body to release tension. Incorporating meditation into walking improves our mental health. For example, by focusing on the sensation of how our limbs move and the breath we take with each step is a good start to clear the mental distractions from the day. Alternatively, observe the environment and take a conscious note of the scenery. PHOTO: SAFRA SWIM FOR HOPE Swimming Swimming is a great all-rounder exercise as it requires a full-body workout. Swimming improves cardiovascular fitness, increases lung capacity, and builds muscle strength. A great exercise to boost overall health and flexibility, swimming is recommended for all ages. Swimming is also effective in nourishing our mental health. The colour blue, reflecting the sky and sea, is associated with serenity. By simply being near the water, the calming colour improves our mood. When one is in the water, all of our senses are instinctively engaged and this then improves our mindfulness. PHOTO: OCBC CYCLE SINGAPORE Cycling Cycling is perfect for those who love the outdoors. In addition to getting fresh air, cycling helps to train strength and stamina. An aerobic exercise, regular cycling helps to promote joint mobility, improve coordination, and train endurance. Cycling is shown to reduce stress and anxiety. As the exercise requires concentration on both the road and cadence, cycling develops a strong sense of awareness. This helps to improve our cognitive function such as memory and reasoning. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Yoga Yoga is a low-impact exercise suited for everyone, from beginner to professional, with the various kinds of practices available. The techniques incorporated in yoga can help with strength and flexibility while reducing chronic pain such as back pain and headaches. With the aim to bring balance and peace to life, yoga uses meditation and breathing techniques. These techniques create mental clarity while increasing the awareness of the body. Regular yoga practice can relieve chronic stress and hone concentration in the long run. PHOTO: SINGAPORE SPORTS HUB Dancing Dancing is not only stress-relieving but a fun exercise to engage in. Accompanied by music, this exercise stimulates both the brain and the body when one attempts the choreography. The physical health benefits include strengthening the muscles, improving flexibility and hand-eye coordination. Dancing also helps to keep the mind sharp and boost our cognitive ability. Most importantly, selecting the right music elevates mood as music promotes the brain’s production of dopamine - a chemical that gives us pleasure. As there are many different types of dance, from hip-hop to latin, select the one that best fits your lifestyle and interest. As we step into the new year, let’s make it a resolution to do the best for our health. Start small but start now. #SportPlusSG #Workout #Exercises

  • Skechers GOrun Speed Beast and Skechers GOrun Razor 4 Review : Reach New Speeds in Superior Comfort

Skechers' new GOrun iterations improve upon the design from previous generations and seek to help runners attain a higher level of performance during their runs Singapore runner Chermaine Zhou sporting the Skechers Women GOrun Razor 4 shoes. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG If you are an avid runner looking to buy a new pair of shoes, Skechers may not be one of your first choices. However, the new Skechers Performance Range with the Skechers GOrun Razor 4 and the Skechers GOrun Speed Beast may just change your mind. Why might it be worth giving them a try? These new iterations improve upon the design from previous Skechers GOrun generations and seek to help runners attain a higher level of performance during their runs. Both shoes feature comfort and performance technology such as a unique carbon-infused winglet plate within the HYPER BURST PRO™ cushioning midsole, the HYPER ARC™ rocker bottom, and the Goodyear® Performance Outsole. Four Singapore runners, Chermaine Zhou, Ivan Chan, John Yeong, and Melissa Foo test out the shoes and share their experiences. A close-up of the Skechers GOrun Speed Beast running shoes. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Skechers GOrun Speed Beast High-cushioned and ultra-lightweight performance The Skechers GOrun Speed Beast was assessed by John and Melissa, and is recommended for fast and longer runs, such as full marathons. Designed to be a high-cushioned, ultra-lightweight performance pair of racing shoes for the most demanding runners, they aim to deliver a quick turnover with running economy in mind. John Yeong running in the Skechers GOrun Speed Beast. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG “Belonging in the max cushioned shoe category, I was pleasantly surprised by Skechers' GOrun Speed Beast performance shoes. To be honest I didn't come into this with any expectations as I've never worn Skechers running shoes before this. I can feel the cushioning, and the carbon-infused winglet plates (part of the midsole) particularly when I open up my strides. It has a bit of a rocker effect as well, between heel and toe, and that gives a bit of an extra bounce even while walking,” John shared. “I would say this pair of shoes would be better for regular runners and not beginners, who may find the rocker effect and stack height of 40mm somewhat foreign.” Close-up of the Skechers GOrun Speed Beast as worn by Melissa Foo. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Comfort technology with an effortless stride The unique midsole is formed using a “Super Critical” process where spherically shaped cells are compressed into the midsole for higher resiliency while retaining its lightweight properties for an effortless stride and responsive energy return with every step. Having brought this pair of shoes out for a 21km half-marathon, he did not experience any blisters, chafing or discomfort throughout his run. Likewise for Melissa, the shoes provided a smooth ride over the 30km mileage she has covered so far. With her longest tempo run of 18km, the shoes remained comfortable with a wide toe box that accommodated her bunions. Running enthusiast and digital content creator Melissa Foo sporting the Skechers GOrun Speed Beast shoes. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG “It was extremely comfortable when running and yet lightweight which was perfect for my long run. Especially towards the end when my legs felt heavier as they got more tired, and I needed all the help I could get to not drag my feet!” she shared. Retailing at $239, the Skechers GOrun Speed Beast is only available in the green/orange colourway as pictured. Other features include a lightweight, strong, and breathable hyper mono mesh upper for added comfort and support. “To be honest I can’t find anything bad about this pair except maybe I would prefer it in a less striking colour combo,” said Melissa. Top view of the Skechers Men GOrun Razor 4 as worn by Ivan Chan. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Skechers GOrun Razor 4 Superior comfort and performance technology The Skechers GOrun Razor 4 was assessed by Chermaine and Ivan. Suitable for half-marathons, the Skechers GOrun Razor 4 is designed to be a better, lighter trainer that is perfect for runners looking for a short race-day pair of shoes. Ivan wears a US size 9 that is true to size and fits him well. As a midfoot and forefoot striker, he was impressed with the responsiveness and energy return of the Skechers GOrun Razor 4, giving him the bounce and propulsion needed during his tempo runs. Ivan Chan taking his Skechers Men GOrun Razor 4 out for a run in the parks. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG. This lace-up running design also has a podiatrist-designed and approved shape, and a removable Arch Fit® insole developed with 20 years of data and 120,000 unweighted foot scans. “The arch support insole can be felt immediately upon first slip into the shoe. The cushioning from the insole matches the shape of the bottom of my feet nicely. This is important to me, not only for comfort but as it also promotes a good running form and reduces the risk of injury,” he shared. For Chermaine, the HYPER BURST PRO™ cushioning midsole technology of the shoe helped in its excellent shock absorption and responsiveness, which ensured a smooth ride throughout her run. The shoe's design and emphasis on its rocker allowed for a good feel of the ground, especially at the toe off, which made for an easy pick up on her tempo run. Chermaine Zhou running in her Women's GOrun Razor 4 shoes PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG. Enhanced stability through excellent traction Renowned for their car tyres, the Goodyear® Performance Outsole is no exception when it comes to providing enhanced stability through excellent traction. “The shoe is stable and not slippery with every step even on wet grounds. I’ve done a couple of runs on a rainy day and the grip is excellent. I have also tried the shoes on gravel terrains along Coney Island and the verdict is a stable run that allows me to manoeuvre while maintaining my pace,” added Ivan. Close-up of the Women's GOrun Razor 4 shoes as worn by Chermaine Zhou. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG. Bold and bright or subtle and classic? Retailing at $179, the Skechers GOrun Razor 4 is available in several colour options for both men and women, ranging from bold and bright to subtle and classic. Visit skechers.com.sg to see all available colours for the Skechers GOrun Razor 4. “I personally love the lilac/blue colourway of the Skechers GOrun Razor 4 that I have in the female version that makes it so feminine and sweet and a rare colour in the market,” said Chermaine. “Overall, the Skechers GOrun Razor 4 is a fantastic option of running shoes that offer excellent comfort, support, and style. It is perfect for runners who cover 5 to 12 km or more in their runs.” Living up to its brand of designing and developing lifestyle and performance products known for style, innovation, quality and comfort, the new Skechers Performance Range offers runners another option to consider to elevate their running experience in superior comfort. Both shoes are available at skechers.com.sg and selected Skechers Concept Stores. #SportPlusSG #SkechersSG #SgRunning
