- Quah Jing Wen : Team 100PLUS
National swimmer, Olympian and multi SEA Games and Asian Games medalist Quah Jing Wen shares more about her interests outside of sport and her love for fashion Meet Team 100PLUS' athletes and digital creators! From high performance athletes representing Singapore at the world stage, to some of the most recognisable everyday citizen athlete content creators, Team 100PLUS is set to bring you through another exciting year of sports compeititons and events and inspire you to continue outdoing yourself! Name: Quah Jing Wen Instagram: @jingwenquah TikTok: @jingquah Sport: Swimming Favourite 100PLUS Drink: 100PLUS PRO Is there a song that motivates you? Jing Wen: I used to listen to a lot of Fonk, which is a genre but that really only works for gym. For swimming I like to listen to Fallout Boys. What is your proudest accomplishment? Jing Wen: That's a tough one, as there are so many. I would say something where I made my family proud I guess? I'm so sorry I really can't choose just one sorry. What kind of people do you get your energy from, and where do you find those people? Jing Wen: Very like-minded people, I am very competitive and I love being around competitive people but that kind of brings out a crazy side in me so I would actually say I get my energy from calmer, more subdued people - more of an opposite energy compared to me. It calms me down a little bit but it also energises me in that sense. What is one resolution last year, you did not fulfil? Jing Wen: Oh my gosh, all my friends are going to get on me for this but last year I said I would be better at texting and reaching out to people because I have friends in the US and the time difference is just crazy. I did not do very well in that, so it is on my resolution list this year again and hopefully I stick to it this time. What is your favourite hobby outside of sports? Jing Wen: Wow okay, I can't choose another sport? Okay my go to one was reading, but I would say my favourite hobby outside of sports is fashion. Is that a hobby? I do like fashion, I have been experimenting a little bit with dressing up and like taking videos and all that stuff for my TikTok so yeah on my TikTok I've actually veered away from sports and been doing more fashion and lifestyle things. #Team100PLUS #100PLUSSG #OutdoYourself #SportPlusSG

- Mohammad Azri Bin Majilan : Team 100PLUS
Pioneer football freestyler in Singapore Azri Majilan, otherwise known as Azri Trickster, looks to inspire the next generation of footballers through coaching them the basics to football Meet Team 100PLUS' athletes and digital creators! From high performance athletes representing Singapore at the world stage, to some of the most recognisable everyday citizen athlete content creators, Team 100PLUS is set to bring you through another exciting year of sports compeititons and events and inspire you to continue outdoing yourself! Name: Mohammad Azri Bin Majilan Instagram: @azritrickster TikTok: @azritrickster Sport: Football, Freestyle Favourite 100PLUS Drink: 100PLUS Active Why did you start doing freestyle football? Azri: I started freestyle football due to a knee injury. That's why I changed my game and I found that freestyle can help me to enjoy the beautiful game. You do a lot of coaching these days, is that part of your passion? To impart knowledge to the next generation? Azri: Yes, I come back to coaching right now in order to pass down knowledge to the youth and kids about how to be creative, to be unique and to improve their self-confidence and to have belief in themselves? Are there any songs that are your favourite for your freestyle routine? Azri: For freestyle routine I love to listen to b-boy music, you know, the beats. It allows my body to groove and then to juggle the ball and to perform for a freestyle show. What would be one word to describe your 2023 and why? Azri: I think 2023 was very "outstanding" for me, because by meeting a lot of kids and their parents whom I have been supporting throughout the year. Seeing kids developing and improving through the training sessions, that's where parents send their kids to me to learn the basics of football. So now, I transform freestyle into football where I first fell in love with the game. I look forward to helping kids improve their game, their self-confidence. They have to start somewhere, so the secret is there is no secret to becoming a success. They have to keep on working hard, and I am there to help every child. Freestyle football is often defined as art and sport combined together, how much of art and creativity do you think is needed in an individual to do freestyle football and become good at it? Azri: It is definitely a mixture of both. That is where you learn to move with the ball to the beats - a lot of crazy thinking, mindset development, to perform in front of 2,000 - 3,000 people. But at the same time you have to stay focused, so you have to be confident to showcase the freestyle move. With my experience of over 10 years of freestyle footballing, I guess I am a pioneer freestyler in Singapore. I use that as a motivation to impart confidence to the kids I coach, so they can go out there and perform positively. #Team100PLUS #100PLUSSG #OutdoYourself #SportPlusSG
- Muhammad Helmi : Team 100PLUS
Recreational multi-sport athlete and TikToker "Helmigas", shares with us why he chose to marry his passion for videography with sports Meet Team 100PLUS' athletes and digital creators! From high performance athletes representing Singapore at the world stage, to some of the most recognisable everyday citizen athlete content creators, Team 100PLUS is set to bring you through another exciting year of sports compeititons and events and inspire you to continue outdoing yourself! Name: Muhammad Helmi Instagram: @helmigas_runs TikTok: @helmigas_run Sport: Running, Cycling Favourite 100PLUS Drink: 100PLUS Active What's Your Favourite Hobby Outside of Sports? Helmi: Videography. I love to take videos of my friends and my family. Actually my passion is to do videography. But to get equipment it's quite expensive so I make do with whatever I have I usually shoot with my iPhone. For inspiration last time I used to do skateboarding, so I would watch skate videos and then from there the videos that those creators make inspire me to create the videos I do now. All those crazy transitions you see on my TikTok I got my inspirations from there. Did you start from TikTok's platform or was it Instagram first before TikTok? Helmi: In the first instance I used Instagram. I didn't use TikTok as much at the beginning but one day my wife asked me to try out TikTok. So I signed up and from there one of my videos went viral. It was inspired by Matt Choy, I couldn't believe it went viral and from there subsequently I did my second video with friends and it went viral again. It was because of that, that a lot of people DM to ask me about my journey, how I started running and all that. It motivated me to create more videos and inspire others to start running. What is one resolution last year that you did not meet? Helmi: To do a sub 2 hour half-marathon. Last year was the most memorable year for me, because a lot of things happened for me. 2023 I had quite a few projects, I had pacer duties for StanChart Singapore Marathon and I also did my first ever duathlon. But one of my goals last year was to do a sub-2 hour half marathon which I haven't met yet. This year 2024, I am intending to break that mark. What would you say made you want to try multi-sport such as triathlon or duathlon? Helmi: When I first started I told myself I did not want to cycle because I already ride a motorbike, so what's the thrill of cycling? But then Covid came, and there was this period where foldies were trending. So I first bought it so that I could send my son to school. But as time went by, I saw some of my friends buy road bicycles which were pretty expensive. I told myself I wouldn't get one at first but when I did my duathlon on a foldie and saw everyone on road bicycles overtake me, it made me realise this year I had to upgrade to a road bicycle so that I can improve on my timing for this year for the cycle leg. So multi-sport is really fun. It's time consuming for sure, but it pushes me past my limits and challenges me to be a better athlete overall, and it feels so satisfying. #Team100PLUS #100PLUSSG #OutdoYourself #SportPlusSG

- Azaria Heng : Team 100PLUS
Co-founder of Fast and Free Run Club and a Clubhouse Floorlead at Rapha Singapore, Azaria Heng has helped build a thriving community around two of his favourite sports Meet Team 100PLUS' athletes and digital creators! From high performance athletes representing Singapore at the world stage, to some of the most recognisable everyday citizen athlete content creators, Team 100PLUS is set to bring you through another exciting year of sports compeititons and events and inspire you to continue outdoing yourself! Name: Azaria Heng Instagram: @azariaheng Sport: Cycling, Running Favourite 100PLUS Drink: 100PLUS Active At what point in your life did you have your biggest breakthrough? Azaria: Mainly was me graduating and qualifying for law school, but after that I did my first ever half-marathon in my life, which was the Gold Coast Marathon. It was a graduation present for me to get back into fitness. I gave myself six months to train for that, I think that sparked everything that came after in 2023 and the bulk of this year. What is your favourite hobby outside of sports? Azaria: Hobby outside of my main two sports which are cycling and running? I would say football maybe, and tennis. I did play a lot of tennis when I was in uni. I picked up tennis on my own, yes you can pick up tennis by watching YouTube videos chuckles. Maybe your lessons will come in lost balls. But football was because it revolved around a lot of many Singaporean boys growing up, both indoor and outdoor (football), and then of course with the whole UK culture when I was studying overseas, football was very prevalent. Who are three people in your life that you look up to the most? Azaria: Firstly one of my cycling heroes, Bradley Wiggins. I think he really changed the era of cycling which really inspired me a lot when I was starting out cycling 10 years ago. Second one would be my coach back then when I was in Temasek Polytechnic Triathlon, coach Eugene. I owe it to him a lot to understand about not just the sport, but also about athletes and the management aspects of a team, and how he was able to bring an athlete from nothing to something. Third person would be my dad. He is someone who lives a simple life but is always supportive of everything I do. Even though he had to scrimp and save, he made sure I had decent equipment to kick off my hobby. Rate yourself across the three disciplines of triathlon. Azaria: Firstly would be cycling. Back then it was cycling, swimming and then running. Running had always been my weakest. But right now I would say cycling, running and then swimming. What is one resolution last year that you did not fulfill? Azaria: I would say maybe firstly on a personal front I did not pass my bar exam. But on the sport side, I regret not participating in a UK cycling based event which is really dear to me. I missed out the bulk of it while I was studying in the UK. And to now work with Rapha Cycling Club, and get the opportunity to go to the UK to participate in a big event, that would be really nice. For example an event like 'Manchester to London', a charity event by one of the founders of Rapha, and it's still a big event to date in the Rapha calendar. #Team100PLUS #100PLUSSG #OutdoYourself #SportPlusSG
- Loh Guo Pei : Team 100PLUS
Former national athlete and head coach of New Balance Run Club Singapore hopes to redeem himself in the full marathon in Sydney this year after not meeting his target in 2023 Meet Team 100PLUS' athletes and digital creators! From high performance athletes representing Singapore at the world stage, to some of the most recognisable everyday citizen athlete content creators, Team 100PLUS is set to bring you through another exciting year of sports compeititons and events and inspire you to continue outdoing yourself! Name: Loh Guo Pei Instagram: @guopeiloh Sport: Athletics, Running, Cycling Favourite 100PLUS Drink: 100PLUS Active What is your proudest accomplishment in life? Guo Pei: To be able to have the chance to be an ambassador for different brands. Right now for New Balance for example, and to be able to have the privilege to be the Head Coach for them. Starting off from scratch with weekly turnouts at 30 to 40 members to now having weekly turnouts of over 150 members is one of the proudest moments that I have in my life so far. What is one last resolution last year that you did not fulfill? Guo Pei: One resolution last year was to train up for a full marathon and to target to go under 3 hours and 30 minutes for that. But I didn't have the time to train, so I tried to run with whatever timing that I had. That was one thing I didn't get to do last year. Last year's Sydney Marathon was a pretty last minute thing for you wasn't it? Guo Pei: For sure, last year's Sydney Marathon was just about 2 weeks of prep when I received the news, and maybe just one or two runs. Not even a long run, maybe just a 5-6km run, that was all the time I could squeeze out. What is something you would hope for in 2024? Guo Pei: Well in 2024 one of my goals is to meet my 2023 resolution, to try to go for under 3 hours 30 minutes for a full marathon as well. So it's to fulfill what I didn't fulfill last year. At what point in your life did you have your biggest breakthrough? Guo Pei: It would probably be 2013, where I qualified for the SEA Games in Myanmar. I was still studying in university and I was focusing so much on my studies that I didn't really have enough time for training, yet I still managed to qualify for it. So that was a special year for me where I could juggle both things. One person that you look up to in your life? Guo Pei: First one would be my coach, coach Elangovan, someone who has been with me since I was 14 years-old. I remembered at that time he was still an active athlete, and I could see how he could balance between competing as an athlete and at the same time coaching us as athletes too. What he did really inspired me to become like him - to have good athletics results and at the same time inspire other athletes. In the next 3 years, how do you want to grow and what do you want to learn? Guo Pei: To grow not just from a coach's point of view, but as a person who can manage my own emotions better. I want to be able to manage my emotions better, and fulfill my role in potentially becoming a husband, a family man. To think more about others, my family next time and not just about myself. #Team100PLUS #100PLUSSG #OutdoYourself #SportPlusSG

Clarissa: Yes, it's called "Try Everything" by Shakira. It's from the movie 'Zootopia'. What is the proudest accomplishment in your life? Clarissa: My proudest accomplishment was when I finally became an official fitness instructor. So I got all my certifications and then officially went on the podium and became a spin instructor. Was that something that has always been a part of your plans? Clarissa: It wasn't always a part of my plan, it was quite impromptu. I thought my life would be quite mapped out - you know like a typical Singaporean - study, get a full time job, work, get married and have kids, but this fitness journey just came in quite unexpectedly and I fell in love with it. What kind of people do you get your energy from, and where do you find those people? Clarissa: I get my energy from people I can connect well with. So people I meet that are able to talk well, or share the same bandwith, make jokes together. That's where I get my energy from. What's one word to describe your 2023, and why? Clarissa: New-experiences. Because I made a lot of career life changes, it was the year I decided I was going to leave my full time job, and pursue fitness full time. At what time in your life did you have your biggest breakthrough? Clarissa: My biggest breakthrough was when I was 14 years-old, I was bullied in school. From then that I decided to work a little harder, to not care about what people think and just work on my personal goals and get better and acheive what I wanted to. In the next 3 years how do you want to grow, and what do you want to learn? Clarissa: In the next 3 years, I would like to get better in terms of my physical aspects, to try out new things, and I would like to make new connections. #Team100PLUS #100PLUSSG #OutdoYourself #SportPlusSG
- Bryce Chong : Team 100PLUS
SEA Games silver medalist and Asian Games athlete Bryce Chong takes aim at a new chapter in life as a Sports Massage Therapist Meet Team 100PLUS' athletes and digital creators! Name: Bryce Chong Instagram: @brycechong_triathlon Sport: Triathlon Favourite 100PLUS Drink: 100PLUS PRO Any pre race music track playlists that you listen to? Bryce: For sure. I usually listen to music at about 175 bpm (beats per minute), so that's the cadence I run to for my long runs. So listening to the music while doing my warm-ups get me in the mood and is the best. Is there a science to songs even for your trainings? Bryce: No it's just some tempo to it so it's more catchy. Makes it more interesting during the warm-up. That's about it. What's your proudest accomplishment in life? Bryce: I have a few but I think the earliest one that I can remember would be 2014, when I qualified for the Youth Olympic Games. The Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. What kind of people do you usually get your energy from and where do you find those people? Bryce: I wouldn't say I get energy from people. Usually, I would say there is a lot of mental prep and stuff like this. Mental prep is definitely very important for me. I don't exactly believe in drawing energy from people because I think the mentality and energy should come from within. What is one resolution last year that you did not fulfill? Bryce: This one is a bit disappointing but I really wanted to win the SEA Games gold medal. I still made it to the podium, but it could always be better. What is your favourite hobby outside of sports? Bryce: One of it is scuba diving, I do have a scuba diving advanced license and I do dive once in a while. So that is one thing that I don't think many people know about me. So if you do want to scuba dive, I am there for you to jio (invite). What made you decide to become a sports massage therapist? Bryce: It's just a means of being more holistic as an athlete and sports person, that's what I've always believed in. As an athlete you always want a bit more knowledge on sports science and sports therapy, especially on sports therapy because it's a lot on recovery as well and recovery in this kind of climate is very important. What is one word that describes your 2023 and why? Bryce: 'Interesting'. There were plans that were mapped out and I had it in my head but uncertainty popped up, for example I wanted to finish my season at SEA Games, but then Asian Games popped out and I had to prep for it again. And I wanted to focus a bit more on career as well but that didn't happen until after Asian Games and so I eventually transitioned full time in being a sports massage therapist. #Team100PLUS #100PLUSSG #OutdoYourself #SportPlusSG

- MetaSprint Series Duathlon 2024: 1,100 Duathletes Light Up Nicoll Highway with Stirring Performances
Popular MetaSprint Series Duathlon returns as participants prepare for next month's Singapore T100 Races Singapore, 17 March 2024 - Even before the crack of dawn, a buzz was already rippling through the roads along Marina Promenade. Wedged between the aquathlon and the triathlon events as part of the MetaSprint Series, there was a familiar feel to the MetaSprint Duathlon held at the F1 Village with its main Sprint categories comprising a 3km run, 18km bike and 3km run. The first flag off at 5am was a special “Fast” wave, curated for Muslim athletes who were due to begin their fast at 5.53am. Everyone was given a boxed UFC Refresh Coconut Water at the finish line but for those who crossed the finishing line after 5.53am, the coconut water had to be saved for breaking their fast 13 hours later. Half an hour after the “Fast” wave began their race, the athletes from the Elite Women's category were flagged off. With an eight minute 33 second head start ahead of the Elite Men wave, the “Champion of Champions” was decided by the first male or female athlete to cross the line – and it was none other than Matthew Brittain who competed in the M35-39 age group. The Matador Racing athlete came in at 00:53:19.32 to take home the crown. The Elite Women champion crossed the line with a time of 01:01:28.33 and if you’ve been to any endurance race, you’d have definitely heard of this household name – Yong Man Yun. The Team Singapore athlete beat 23 other racers to the podium on Sunday morning with a pace of 2:09 min/km. Finishing behind Brittain was Singapore’s Tey Yi Jun and Ben Khoo. Tey, who represented Tribal Triathlon Singapore crossed the line at 00:53:47.02 while Khoo came in around 13 seconds after. The duo shared a moment of sportsmanship at the finish line as the two celebrated together. Despite starting off in the leading pack, Team Singapore’s Bryce Chong finished in fourth place after suffering a fall in the first leg. “We started at about 5.30am so it was pretty dark. Fortunately, I escaped without any bad injuries,” Chong said with a sigh of relief. “Today’s course was pretty straightforward. Because it was so early in the morning, there was a little bit of headwind. Overall, everything was simple, fast and good! The last time I did a duathlon was before Covid so it’s been a while for me. Personally, I do more aquathlons and triathlons because they’re my forte. For now though, any race will do because I'm preparing for my IRONMAN 70.3 Desaru Coast race in May." With Yong securing the top spot in the Elite Women category, Renata Berliana Aditya joined the seasoned Singaporean at the finish line as she came in second place. The young Indonesian, who competed in the F20-24 age group, came in 33 seconds after Yong. Great Britain’s Suzie Bacon then completed the top three, coming in three minutes after Aditya. Aldrich Goh, who participated in the M20-24 age group category, commenced his race alongside wave 18 and secured an impressive second place finish within the group. “It was so nice to be back here after a year. My legs got pretty tired but I still had a decent first run out. I maintained my pace on the bike and eventually finished second in my wave. It was a really nice course as usual. It was great to be back on Nicoll Highway! Overall, it was a good race,” he shared. Like many who took part in the duathlon, Aldrich is using the race as a means to prepare for the T100 Triathlon World Tour on 13th to 14th April. “For the upcoming T100, I’ll be doing the relay so I’ll just be doing the run. This duathlon has been a good training session for a pure running leg. Through this, I’ve now gotten myself in the mood for multi sport. Even though I'll just be doing the run, I’m definitely going to enjoy the t100!” While Chong has his reservations for the predawn darkness, Sprint Relay participant Eunice Tan felt the opposite and embraced the cooler weather. “Fortunately for me, the sun wasn’t fully up yet so I think I had the best leg,” she laughed. The first of the Team SportPlus trio to race in the relay, Eunice ran the first 3km before tagging her twin sister, Bernice Tan who cycled the next 18km leg. “I was super excited to represent SportPlus! I haven't done a MetaSprint event in a while as I had a lot of work commitments. Coming back into it and seeing so many familiar faces, I'm really happy. I really had a lot of fun,” Eunice smiled. “This is my first duathlon so it was quite fun and it was really enlightening to do a relay. It wasn’t as stressful to do all three legs! It’s been a while since I last raced because the last time I did last year, I fractured my wrist so I was out for some time. I did a triathlon last month and now I'm back. I’m excited to race a few more times as the year goes on,” shared Bernice. The final 3km run for the team was run by Cedric Chua, who with the support of the sisters, helped the team towards a second place finish. “It was pretty good! It was a straightforward course along the river and it was just beautiful. I’ve been racing here for a couple of years now so it’s always a good memory! The last time I did a MetaSprint event was in 2021 and I did the whole series,” said Chua. It wasn’t just the experienced athletes who got all the fun on Sunday morning. There were plenty of families eagerly watching their children compete in the youth and kids categories. There was also the Discovery category – open to participants between the ages of 16 to 39 – which consisted of a 1.5km run, 12km bike and another 1.5km run. With the prestigious and eagerly awaited T100 Triathlon World Tour just around the corner, the MetaSprint series offered a tantalizing preview of what's to come.
