On April 25th, athletes returned from the competition venue to find their residence ransacked and belongings stolen, forcing them to relocate to a hotel during the championships. Rather than derailing their performance, the team channeled this adversity into motivation. World Champions in 4-Way Dynamic Singapore claimed gold in the Dynamic 4-Way event after a thrilling final against Switzerland. When the match went to a tie-breaker, Team Singapore maintained a decisive 10-second advantage despite both teams incurring penalties for errors. The gold medal performance by Kai Minejima-Lee, Vera Poh, Kyra Poh, and Choo Yi Xuan establishes Singapore as the premier nation in this technically demanding discipline. "This gold means even more given what we had to overcome," said Kyra, who made a triumphant return to competition after being sidelined for more than a year due to injury. "The burglary incident could have derailed our focus, but instead, it brought us closer together. When the final went to a tie-breaker, we knew we had the mental strength to handle the pressure." Vera Poh Wins Silver in Solo Speed Junior Championship Vera Poh secured a silver medal in the Solo Speed Junior event, demonstrating exceptional technical precision in one of the sport's most demanding disciplines. Her performance in this individual event, combined with her contribution to the Dynamic 4-Way gold medal team, confirms her status as one of the top young talents in indoor skydiving. "Speed events are all about focus and execution," said Vera. "After our experience with the burglary, I channeled that determination into my performance. I'm proud to contribute this silver medal to Team Singapore's total." Kai Minjima-Lee Clinches Silver in Tight Finish in Freestyle Open In the Freestyle Open category, Kai Minejima-Lee secured silver, finishing just 0.1 points behind Poland's Maja Kuczyńska. The 16-year-old, who remains the reigning 2024 World Cup champion, delivered a brilliant routine that showcased his trademark innovation. "I gave everything in my routine and am proud to add a World Championship silver to my World Cup gold," said Kai. "Coming away with this medal after the challenges we faced makes it even more meaningful." Team Firefly Claims Bronze in 2-Way Dynamic Singapore's "Team Firefly" duo of Kyra Poh and Choo Yi Xuan claimed bronze in Dynamic 2-Way after edging out France by 0.02 seconds in a dramatic tie-breaker. "That mental resilience really helped us – especially in that tie-breaker where every hundredth of a second counted," said Yi Xuan. “Just being in a competition again as Team Firefly was also really special.” Kyra’s return to competition after more than a year of injury rehabilitation made the medal even more significant, adding, "Coming back from such a long break and immediately winning medals at the world championships is incredibly rewarding." • 2XU Compression Run Rights a Misstep, Reinstates the Half Marathon Distance

Popular 2XU Run Reinstates Confidence in its Participants, Restoring Full Half Marathon Distance Following Community Feedback and Initial Backlash PHOTO: 2XU COMPRESSION RUN In an encouraging move that underscores the power of community voices, the 2XU Compression Run has officially reinstated its 21.1-kilometer half marathon course, reversing an earlier decision to shorten the route. The change comes after mounting feedback from dedicated runners, many of whom expressed disappointment over the initial adjustment. On social media, the event’s organizers announced the update with a message that struck a tone of gratitude and transparency. In an Instagram post, they wrote: "Dear all, thank you for sticking with us through the feedback—we pushed hard because your race matters. After thorough review and coordination with all parties, we’re pleased to confirm the Half Marathon at the full 21.1 KM distance. To close the gap, we’ve added a final loop near the finish." PHOTO: 2XU COMPRESSION RUN The announcement also included key race day advisories, highlighting that the final stretch will now be a shared path with 10 KM and 5 KM runners. Organisers urged participants to stay alert and respectful in the narrowed space, and reassured that marshals will be present to manage the flow safely. An updated race guide is now live on the event's website, providing clarity for all categories. The initial plan to shorten the half marathon had sparked dismay among seasoned participants who view the 21.1 KM distance as both a physical and symbolic benchmark. For many, it represents a personal milestone earned through months of rigorous training. The adjustment felt like a deviation from the spirit of the race—and of the sport. To their credit, the 2XU team responded not with defensiveness, but with action. Their reversal is more than just a logistical update; it’s a testament to the value of athlete feedback and the event’s commitment to honoring the challenge that runners willingly take on. PHOTO: 2XU COMPRESSION RUN In a climate where many large-scale events struggle to balance logistics with participant experience, this decision reflects thoughtful leadership. It's also a reminder that even in mass participation events, the individual runner’s journey still matters. As race day nears, runners can now return to their training schedules with renewed purpose, knowing that their voices helped shape the outcome. The message is clear: This isn’t just a run—it’s your run. And together, the community and organizers made it whole again. See you at the starting line. • 2XU Compression Run 2025 Race Route Revealed, After Initial Fears of Event Cancellation Amidst Election Season

Organisers have shortened the half-marathon race category to 20km, citing logistical and operational factors to ensure the safety of runners and smooth execution of the event PHOTO: 2XU COMPRESSION RUN Singapore, 22 April 2025 - The 2XU Compression Run 2025 has revealed the official race route of this year’s 2XU Run at 7.25pm, amidst initial growing concerns from participants about a possible event cancellation due to a lack of information about the event’s race route. The event has also shifted the start pen time from 3.30am to 2.45am and reduced the popular 21.1km half-marathon category race distance to 20km, citing operational and logistical factors to ensure the safety of runners and smooth execution of the event. Past participants of the 2XU Run shared that the event’s half-marathon distance has traditionally fallen short of the full 21.1km required of a half-marathon, but were dismayed to find out that this has been shortened even further to 20km, with many taking to the 2XU Run's Instagram and Facebook pages to vent their frustrations. PHOTO: 2XU COMPRESSION RUN The 2XU Run, set to commence at 4am this Sunday from the F1 Pit Building, has been fully sold out, indicating strong interest and participation, underscoring the rising demand for endurance running events in the region. Earlier this week, the Standard Chartered KL Marathon (KLSCM 2025) sold out in under 4 hours after tickets went on sale. In the days leading up to the race route and race guide announcement, SportPlus.sg received multiple enquiries about the status of the 2XU Run via its website, with many participants expressing their concerns, despite SportPlus.sg not operating as an official media partner for 2XU Run. These concerns centered on a lack of updates from official sources about the race route and timing of the event, after it was revealed that it would fall within the campaign period for Singapore's general elections. The 21.1km half marathon race route of 2XU Compression Run 2025, reduced to 20km. The 14th Parliament was dissolved on 15 April 2025, with Nomination Day on 23 April  and Polling Day scheduled for 3 May . This overlap has led to speculation about potential disruptions or cancellations, reminiscent of OCBC Cycle 2025 , which was converted to a virtual event due to the elections , an event in which organisers made the decision to refund participants their registration fees. Participants had drawn parallels between the two events, fearing that the 2XU Compression Run might face a similar fate. To address these SportPlus.sg had reached out to 2XU Run organisers for updates to allay the concerns of the participants, and was redirected to contact "General Enquiries" after the race route and updated race guide was announced at 7.25pm. The 2XU Compression Run's Race Entry Pack Collection (REPC) took place two weekends ago at Suntec City, from 12 to 13 April. Thousands of participants collected their race bibs, shirts, and goodie bags—an event that typically signals final preparations for a major road race. On Friday, 25 April 2025 at 6.00pm, organisers of the 2XU Compression Run reinstated the full half-marathon distance for participants after overwhelming feedback from the community. The 2025 2XU Compression Run is slated to proceed as originally planned this Sunday, 27 April 2025 at F1 Pit Building, and is the first half marathon road race to take place in the race calendar year in Singapore. Participants can find out more about race details, including the detailed race route and course maps for all categories in the official race guide here . #2XURun #2XURun2025

The world's fastest just got faster, as adidas unveils next generation Adios Pro Evo 2 race day shoes, with latest release featuring the record-breaking ingredients seen in the race-dominating Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 alongside new speed-focused design updates PHOTO: ADIDAS SINGAPORE Singapore, April 25th, 2025 – adidas today unveils the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 , the highly anticipated evolution of the race-dominating Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. The shoe continues to push the boundaries of performance, building on the legacy of its predecessor – which has been worn by more World Marathon Majors winners than any other shoe since its record-breaking debut at the 2023 Berlin Marathon, and helped adidas athletes break three world records and win over 30+ key road races, including seven national records and one Olympic record time. PHOTO: ADIDAS SINGAPORE At the pinnacle of adidas’ famed Adizero franchise – which featured on the feet of more winning athletes than all other running brands combined in 2024* – the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 has been engineered to deliver even greater energy return and race-day speed. At the core of this update are a series of technological enhancements designed to give athletes a competitive edge: PHOTO: ADIDAS SINGAPORE • New midsole – The footwear debuts a new midsole which packs 3mm more of adidas’ LIGHTSTRIKE PRO EVO foam in the forefoot, resulting in an almost 10% increase in forefoot stack height (compared to its predecessor). Lab testing shows this delivers a 5% increase in energy return when compared to the record-breaking Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1. • Reimagined outsole – The shoe debuts a new outsole which features a grid-like pattern strategically placed on the forefoot, engineered to offer traction as the foot hits the floor. PHOTO: ADIDAS SINGAPORE Midsole measurements: Heel: 39 mm / Forefoot: 36 mm – Drop: 3 mm As seen in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, the forefoot rocker is placed at 60% of the length of the shoe. Patrick Nava, VP Product, Running & Credibility Sports at adidas Running says: “The design process for this shoe was a challenging but ultimately rewarding pursuit that started with simply looking at how we can make the fastest shoe we’ve ever created, even faster – all whilst keeping the weight consistent. The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 is born from our relentless pursuit of speed – refined through rigorous testing – from the high-altitude training camps in Iten, Kenya to our innovation labs in Herzogenaurach. PHOTO: ADIDAS SINGAPORE Working alongside our elite athletes like former world record holder Yomif Kejelcha, we’ve developed a shoe that delivers more energy return and a more efficient running economy with no compromise on agility. We believe we’ve delivered the best experience yet and can’t wait to see possibly the fastest shoe we’ve ever created flying on the road during marathon season”. Speaking about the shoe, adidas athlete Tigist Assefa said: “Having broken the women’s marathon world record in the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1, I couldn’t wait to try the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 – and I have been blown away by the experience. It offers incredible lightness while providing energy return and bounce underfoot, giving me a feeling of comfort and confidence to focus on running my best race.” PHOTO: ADIDAS SINGAPORE The design aesthetic is an evolution of its record-breaking predecessor – the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 – featuring a minimalistic silver finish, highlighted by bold red three stripes, designed to be visible at any speed. The shoe will launch with a highly limited release, with ambitious runners able to sign up for the chance to get their hands on a pair from 25th April. This will be followed by a wider release in the fall marathon season. The Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2 will cost $709. • A Beginner's Guide to Running: How to Start and Stick With It

If you're new to running or looking to put those running shoes to good use, here's a beginner's guide on how to keep consistent with the sport PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Running is one of the most accessible, renowned and simple yet rewarding forms of exercise. However, for newbies, taking the first step can feel intimidating. Whether your goal is to improve your health, boost your dopamine or just experience something new, this editorial will guide you through starting—and sticking with—a running routine that works for you. Why Start Running? Running offers a multitude of benefits, from improved cardiovascular health and stronger muscles to better mental clarity and as a form of stress relief . Many new runners also discover a sense of community and achievement, whether it’s by finishing that first 5KM race or simply enjoying a peaceful jog in the park. Laying the Foundation PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Start simple (Walking) Whether you are new to exercising or returning after a long hiatus, you could start with brisk walking. This helps your body adapt and reduces the risk of injury. Aim for a pace that feels similar – for example: think of being late to work rather than just leisurely strolling. A walking plan for a few weeks can build strength and endurance required for running. Invest in the Right Gear Finding comfortable and supportive running shoes are essential. Visit a specialty store for a gait analysis if possible, and choose moisture-wicking clothing to stay comfortable in all weather. You can also check out our editorial here to help you pick the right pair of shoes for you. Check with Your Doctor If you have any health concerns or are over 60, consult your doctor before starting a new exercise routine. Building Your Running Habit Follow a Structured Plan A beginner’s training plan provides structure, motivation, and gradual progression. Most plans start with a mix of running and walking, slowly increasing the running intervals as your fitness improves. For example, you could try “Jeffing” — an interval training   method that alternates between walking and running at your own pace. As you progress, your walking intervals will naturally shrink, and you’ll find yourself running longer and more effortlessly. Warm Up and Cool Down PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Make sure to always begin with a simple warm-up—such as five minutes of brisk walking or dynamic stretches—to prepare your muscles and joints for the run. After your run, cool down with slower walking and static stretches to aid recovery and prevent injury. Set Realistic Goals Start with a simple realistic goal, like running for 10 minutes without stopping or completing a 5KM run. Celebrating small milestones helps with staying motivated and disciplined in the long run. Tips for Sticking With It Run at Your Own Pace Don’t worry about speed or distance at first. Focus on consistency and making running a regular part of your routine. It’s perfectly fine to take walk breaks—many experienced runners do the same. Don’t overthink about speed or distance when you first start. Put your focus on being consistent and make running a regular part of your routine. It is completely fine to take walk breaks–even the experienced runners do that too. Find Your Motivation PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Whether it’s listening to music, running with a friend, or exploring new routes, find what makes running enjoyable for you. Tracking your progress with an app or journal can also boost motivation. Be Flexible Life can get busy sometimes. If you miss a session, don’t be hard on yourself–just pick up where you left off. Adjust your plan as needed, and remember that progress isn’t always linear. Prioritise Recovery Rest days are just as equally important as running days. They allow your body to adapt and reduce the risk of burnout or injury. Join a Running Club PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG There are many beginner-friendly running clubs in Singapore such as That Run Club , Running Department , Happy Pace Club and many more that warmly welcomes all runners of different levels. From beginners to competitors, you will definitely find your place and meet new friends. Common Pitfalls to Avoid Firstly, doing too much, too soon. Increase your overall training load - running time or distance - by no more than 10 per cent per week to avoid injury. Secondly, ignoring pain. Listen to what your body is telling you. If you are experiencing continuous pain, it is a sign to rest or seek advice. Lastly, comparing yourself to others: Comparison is indeed the thief of joy. Everybody has their own unique journey. Focus on your own lane, progress and goals.  PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG The Road Ahead As you build confidence and endurance, you could try embarking on new challenges—like running a 10K or joining a half-marathon. The key is to keep running enjoyable and sustainable, making it a lifelong habit rather than a short-term fix. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” With patience, consistency, and the right mindset, anyone can have what it takes become a runner. Lace up, step outside, and start your journey today. #Running #Beginners

Still awaiting final inspections, the AFC Champions League Two final between Lion City Sailors and Sharjah FC is now set to be played at Bishan Stadium PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG After a week of back and forth between Sharjah FC, Lion City Sailors and The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), provisional approval has been granted to the home side to host the upcoming AFC Champions League Two (ACL Two) final at Bishan Stadium on 18th May. "This is subject to final inspection and formal approval by AFC in early May," Lion City Sailors said in their statement on Wednesday (Apr 23). "Over the next few weeks, the club will be working closely with Sport Singapore, the Football Association of Singapore and sports industry experts to make the necessary upgrades and preparations to ensure the venue is match-ready for the big night on 18 May." Though The Sailors had successfully hosted all their previous ACL Two home games at Jalan Besar Stadium, Sharjah FC requested for the final to be moved, citing the ground's limited capacity and artificial turf pitch as reasons for being unfit to host a final of such stature. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG The Sailors however, put their foot down in a statement on 19 April . "We want to state our position clearly: this final must be played in Singapore. This is our home, and as the club that has earned the right to host the final, we believe it is only fair and proper that it takes place on Singaporean soil," they said. " Jalan Besar Stadium has been a certified AFC Champions League Two venue that meets AFC’s regulations and requirements throughout the competition, successfully hosting six home matches in this tournament alone. It has a proud history of staging major football matches and has more than proven itself as a capable and reliable venue." • Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon™ 2025 launches exciting new two-day format, with Marathon and Half Marathon to be run on separate days

The 2025 edition of the region's premier marathon will debut a two-day format, replacing the event’s previous three-day schedule, participants will benefit from dedicated Marathon and Half Marathon routes and timings, offering a more immersive race experience for all runners PHOTO: STANDARD CHARTERED SINGAPORE MARATHON Singapore, 15 April 2025 – The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon™ (SCSM) , the only World Athletics Gold Label Race in Southeast Asia, is due to return on 6-7 December 2025 with an exciting two-day format that is set to upgrade the overall race experience for participants and spectators alike. For the first time in the event’s history, the Half Marathon and Marathon will be held on separate days, creating a smoother, more enjoyable race-day experience and ensuring an unforgettable race weekend for all runners. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG SCSM 2024 was a record-breaking event, attracting over 55,000 runners from Singapore and around the globe. The new two-day format, introduced for the 2025 edition, will allow more runners than ever before to be a part of this celebrated event. Refreshed race schedule for SCSM 2025 With the Half Marathon and Marathon runs taking place on separate days, the race schedule will be as follows: Saturday, 6 December: Half Marathon, 5km, and Kids Dash. Sunday, 7 December : Marathon, Ekiden, and 10km. Participation in the Marathon and Half Marathon categories grew significantly by 31% and nearly 46%, respectively, over the past three editions of SCSM. This upward momentum highlights the increasing passion for long-distance running in Singapore and has informed the decision to hold the two categories on separate days. With this new format, runners in both categories will enjoy their own dedicated course and race-day atmosphere. The change in format also benefits runners in the 5km category, who will begin their race day two hours earlier than in previous years, with their race now flagging off at a cooler time of 6.30 am. The two-day format will also be more inclusive, with the Kids Dash moved from its previous Friday evening slot to Saturday morning, bringing young runners and their families into the heart of the event, making it an even more exciting experience for them. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Jeff Edwards, Managing Director of Asia for The IRONMAN Group, organisers of SCSM said, “SCSM has a long history of bringing together a global community of runners, and the 2024 edition saw more than 55,000 participants join us over the race weekend. This incredible turnout is a testament to the growing recognition and continued legacy of the event, which continues to attract more runners in every edition.” He added, “As organisers, we aim to evolve alongside this growth, ensuring we continually look for ways to improve the overall race experience and create an environment where runners can perform at their best – conditions that SCSM is best known for. These adjustments, which have been thoughtfully planned, are aimed at creating a smooth flow throughout to ensure the best possible race experience for our runners, and allow for more runners than ever before to be a part of this event.” PHOTO: STANDARD CHARTERED SINGAPORE MARATHON “This year also marks the 10th anniversary of The IRONMAN Group organising the race. During that time, we’ve proudly seen the event grow in size and scale, with it now being recognised as the premier running event in the region. There has been a lot of innovation over those 10 years, including the event being run at night in 2019 and the creation of the SCSM Virtual Club during the pandemic, but the adjustments made for 2025 are the most significant and provide the opportunity for the event to continue to grow into the future.” he said. “SCSM has established itself as a cornerstone event in Singapore's sporting calendar, drawing increasing participation year after year," said Mr Roy Teo, Chief of Industry Development at Sport Singapore. "In 2024, we saw remarkable growth amongst participants from SportSG programmes, including ActiveSG Athletics Club and SportCares, with numbers rising by more than 50% compared to 2023." PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG "The 2025 edition brings an exciting new format, with the Half Marathon, 5km and Kids Dash all scheduled for Saturday – making it easier for families to participate together. As Singapore celebrates SG60, we invite everyone – from first-time runners to experienced marathoners, children to grandparents – to be part of this special milestone in our nation's largest running event!" This year's marathon is also set to delight participants with a scenic route that showcases Singapore’s stunning landmarks to add to the run experience. Details on the full route, finish line, and road closures will be provided closer to the event. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Ms Lilian Chee, Director, Sports, Singapore Tourism Board, said, “Sports events bring people and passion together, and continue to be an integral part of our strategy to bring in quality events that appeal to both visitors and locals. SCSM gathers athletes from around the world, showcasing Singapore as a premier sporting capital. The growing number of international participants choosing to run the marathon here reflects the appeal of the Singapore experience. Beyond the race, we invite sports enthusiasts to immerse themselves in Singapore’s vibrant lifestyle offerings.” PHOTO: STANDARD CHARTERED SINGAPORE MARATHON Leveraging sports to unite the community In a move to give back to the community and similar to last year, Standard Chartered will offer 200 complimentary race slots to volunteers and running enthusiasts from community organisations including Special Olympics Singapore. Parents who sign their children up for the Kids Dash can gift-a-slot to children from the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s ComLink+ programme that supports lower-income families. Standard Chartered employees who sign up for the marathon will also be able to make donations to Futuremakers, the Bank’s global youth economic empowerment initiative. SCSM has grown from strength to strength over the years, and continues to attract participants from all walks of life, including seasoned athletes and those who wish to experience a shared sense of achievement through the Ekiden race. Running communities from seasoned pacers, joyful joggers, and a bold Gen Z crew unite to kick off the road to Singapore’s premier race event As the launch of registrations for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2025 draws near, the city’s running scene is pulsing with renewed energy.
