Beyond the Podium: Resilience, Longevity, and the Power of Process with ASICS Singapore’s Multi SEA Games Duathlete

In the high-stakes world of elite endurance sports, the path to the podium is rarely a straight line. For Singaporean duathlete and multi-SEA Games representative Yong Man Yun, the 2025 season served as a crucible. Facing injury and a complete shift in her training environment, Man Yun didn’t just survive—she evolved.
As part of our month-long collaboration series with ASICS Singapore featuring The A Team, we sit down with Man Yun to discuss the delicate balance of longevity, the evolution of her "why," and how she navigates the complexities of high performance sports in 2026.
Redefining the "Why"
For many athletes, the motivation begins with a singular desire to win. But after years of competing on the regional stage, Man Yun’s perspective has undergone a profound transformation.
"My 'why' has shifted from wanting to reach my potential and represent Singapore at the SEA Games to now, this mindset to do my best has been ingrained in me," she shares. "i.e. doing my best to be close to the best version of myself. The process becomes more important than the outcome now."
This shift, from medal-chasing to process-oriented excellence, is the hallmark of an athlete who has mastered the mental game. It’s a philosophy that prioritises sustainable growth over fleeting accolades.

The Blueprint for the Next Generation: Longevity and Sportsmanship
As a senior member of the ASICS Singapore athlete family, Man Yun has become a role model for the next wave of local endurance talent. When asked what advice she has for the incoming generation of "A-Racers," her focus is on authenticity.
"Discover yourself and adapt to the changes you will face in the coming years," she says. "Given how social media is a big part of an athlete's life, it is important for them to stay honest. Supporting fellow athletes and celebrating with competitors will help the sport and the athletes grow."
Sound Mind, Sound Body: The ASICS Partnership
For a high performance athlete, reliability is the greatest form of support. Reflecting on a challenging 2025 where injury sidelined her for weeks, Man Yun highlights how the ASICS partnership provided more than just gear—it provided stability.
"Sound Mind, Sound Body hits home to me greatly after I had a 3-4 weeks 'ban' from training and returned to it feeling like my old self and hitting times I was struggling to meet in 2025," she explains. "From SEA Games to local and international races, and even when I was not performing, ASICS is always around to make sure I am squared away for training and races. I can truly focus on what I need to do to be the best athlete I can be."

The Art of the Recovery: Listening to the Body
Mastering the craft of endurance training is a lifelong pursuit. For Man Yun, the goal is to balance the drive to push limits with the wisdom of when to pull back.
"I have to be very observant and conscious of what I was doing and feeling," she says. "It is also about trial and error, taking the risk (and time) to try something, but know when to stop when you realise it may not be working or continue if it works for you. There is no perfect formula as this is largely by your own judgment and calculated risk."
Her advice to others? "The positive thing is no matter what happens, you will definitely learn something out of it—just don't repeat mistakes!"

The Workhorse: Man Yun’s Go-To Gear
When she isn’t racing, Man Yun relies on the ASICS NOVABLAST™ series for her daily mileage. As a staple in her rotation, the shoe perfectly bridges the gap between performance and recovery.
"NOVABLASTs are my staple for long and easy runs," Man Yun notes. "It’s a very capable trainer. It keeps my legs fresh in between hard sessions, and it provides the cushion and stability that a trainer should have."
Looking ahead to the upcoming NOVABLAST™ 6, Man Yun is eager to see how the next iteration continues to elevate her training. And while she keeps it professional on the track, she admits there’s a touch of fun in her process: "I definitely have more fun when I try to match the colours of my apparels and shoes. May accidentally feel smoother, too!"

A Lasting Legacy
As we look toward the future of Singaporean athletics, Man Yun’s message is simple but powerful for anyone looking to push their boundaries:
"Don't let age stop you from trying."
Whether you are a seasoned duathlete or just beginning your own fitness journey, Man Yun’s trajectory serves as a reminder that with the right support, the right mindset, and a commitment to the process, you can redefine what is possible for yourself.
