ASICS athlete Serena Teoh creates new blueprint for lifelong performance through her discipline of showing up

For many, breaking the three-hour barrier is a milestone that separates the enthusiast from the elite. For Singaporean marathoner Serena Teoh, that barrier wasn’t just a clock-time target—it was the culmination of a decade-long evolution in mindset.
As part of our ASICS Global Running Month series, we spotlight the athletes who prove that your "prime" isn't a fixed age, but a state of mind.
The Evolution of her "Why"
For some, the journey to becoming a high-performance athlete begins with a burning ambition for speed. For Serena, the path was more unconventional.
"When I first started, it was about enjoying the scenery and weather during runs while living and working in Switzerland," she reflects. "Now, running has become a part of me because it has taught and given me so much in life, almost to the extent that it has made me a completely different person."
That transformation is profound. Serena admits that in her late 20s, the concept of exercise felt "laborious" compared to the allure of a social life. Today, she treats the act of lacing up her shoes as a non-negotiable discipline.
"Now I lace up even on days I don’t feel motivated, because running has created that consistency in me and made me a more resilient person, even on days I don’t feel like showing up."

Lessons in Longevity for the Next Generation
As a seasoned athlete within the ASICS family, Serena has become a blueprint for younger runners navigating the pressures of competitive sports. Her advice for the next generation of "A-Racers" is simple, yet often overlooked in the pursuit of personal bests:
"Set goals, but don’t be fixated and obsessed about them in life. Work hard, but also remember—life is not all about running!"
This philosophy of balance is the cornerstone of her longevity. While the instinct to push through every barrier is natural for elite competitors, Serena has mastered the wisdom of knowing when to ease off.
"As an athlete, the instinct is always to push past that comfort zone," she explains. "But over the years, I've learnt to try and manage the niggles when they come before they explode into something more serious and put me out for a longer period."

A Partnership Built on Performance
For Serena, being an ASICS athlete is about more than just the gear—it’s about the culture of support. Being part of the team has played a pivotal role in her ability to maintain a high level of competitiveness at this stage in her career.
"I am thankful for the brand and hope to be competitive for as long as I can," she says. "I love the ASICS SG people, family, and products. Being with them in apparel and gear which I like is positive and motivating for me to keep showing up."

The Daily Workhorse: Serena’s Gear Essentials
High-performance results are built on the "boring, beautiful" recovery miles. When she isn’t racing, Serena relies on the ASICS GEL-NIMBUS™ and MEGABLAST™ to protect her legs. "It's like stepping into a cloud of supportive pillows," she notes.
As the running community eagerly awaits the AW26 collection, Serena is particularly excited about the evolution of the NOVABLAST™ 6. Having tracked the series' progress, she appreciates the intentional design shifts: "The NOVABLAST™ has evolved into a more stable shoe through the various editions; I am looking forward to the continued stability and spring-like sensation in the shoe."
When it comes to race-day psychology, she turns to the ACTIBREEZE™ series. "They keep you cool and evade that sensation of the singlet sticking to your body as you sweat," she adds, noting that the right apparel is often the final piece of the mental puzzle for race-day focus.

The Ultimate Legacy
When asked about the legacy she hopes to leave for the Singapore running scene, Serena keeps her eyes on the road ahead.
"I hope to continue running and improving my times for as long as I can, and in doing so, inspire others to continue pushing out of their comfort zone—not just in running, but in other aspects of life too."
As she continues to break barriers and redefine what it means to be a "senior" athlete, Serena Teoh reminds us all that the most important race we ever run is the one against our own limitations.
