While the onset of Covid-19 has raised overall participation levels for running and cycling both in Singapore and the region over the past 3 years, the re-opening of the industry begged the question of whether this trend would stop as people made their way back to the offices and schools.

The good news? Little has changed as runners, be it solo or in groups, together with cyclists continue to hit the roads and park connectors on a weekly basis even as Singapore transitioned back into life post-Covid.

Whether you are an avid runner, or perhaps just someone looking for a leisurely cycle or walk with friends and family, you can do so and get rewarded this November when you take part in the Urban Exploration Challenge of the Urban Sports and Wellness Week hosted by ibis Budget Hotels and organised by media partners Sport Plus Media Pte Ltd.

Urban Exploration Challenge

A week-long activity, Urban Exploration features a total of 8 check-points - four (4) ibis Budget Hotel outlets, three (3) Huggs Coffee outlets and wellness centre Trapeze Rec Club; in which participants can stand to win attractive digital giveaways while sweating it out through the workout of their choice - running, cycling, walking.

The highlight of Urban Exploration week is an organised group run led by popular local running group Superhero Runners on the morning of Saturday, 12 November 2022 at 8am.

Superhero Runners x Urban Sports and Wellness Week

Formed in 2014, Superhero Runners was founded by three friends and runners who shared a love for Superhero movies and characters, while also having a common interest in running. And while it started as a small group with just friends and families, the group eventually expanded in size, with the group size these days ranging from 50 on good days and approximately 30 runners each week on average days.

When asked why he loved running and how it has motivated him, co-founder and co-captain Sebastian Cheong said: "I run to maintain my fitness level and to hopefully run till I'm old."

Nelson Wong, also co-founder and co-captain, added: "Running is a great way to release stress and clear the mind. Persistence is the key to overcoming challenges in life."

What Participants Can Expect

The organised group run will only be visting five (5) out of the 8 checkpoints of the week-long Urban Exploration Challenge, with the total route measuring approximately 8km.

And while the group usually does tempo runs, hill repeats and intervals, registrants of the organised group run for Urban Exploration on Saturday, 12 November can expect an easier pace - and runners of all fitness levels are welcome to participate as it will be more of a city sight-seeing run.

There will be a proper warm-up conducted before the run and cool down workout after the run.
