- Recover Faster at Home with Theragun PRO Plus, the ultimate post-workout recovery device
Featuring five vibration speeds, light therapy, heat therapy and a cold attachment, Theragun PRO Plus is the latest revolutionary multi-therapy device for athletic performance PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG “All I can say is that there are massage guns, and then there is Theragun PRO Plus,” - John Yeong, Avid Runner and Founder of Sport Plus Media Recovery is an integral part of athletic performance. But getting recovery right can be tricky, especially when most athletes have limited access to top class facilities for expensive physiotherapy. Thanks to the Theragun PRO Plus , most athletes and fitness enthusiasts can now experience the benefits of different therapies in the comfort of their home. Whether you are looking to ease sore muscles following an intense workout session or hoping to expedite healing from a sports injury - simply pull out your Theragun PRO Plus from its case, push its button and follow the instructions on your Therabody app for a guided therapy session. About Theragun PRO Plus PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Theragun PRO Plus is the latest percussive massage gun (sixth generation) from Therabody. In this revolutionary rendition, Theragun incorporates six recovery therapies: percussive and vibration massage, LED light, heat, cold, and breathwork for an optimised performance. The multi-therapy device Theragun PRO Plus keeps its signature percussive massage while incorporating the Therabody app to maximise recovery with guided routines. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Percussive and vibration therapy The device delivers a powerful 16mm percussive therapy through concentrated pulses to stimulate blood circulation. The penetration into deep muscle tissues speeds up the body’s natural recovery process while relieving muscle tension. Vibration therapy, while milder, is invaluable for the treatment of sensitive muscles and joint pain. The adjustable vibration speed (47, 50, 53 Hz) is perfect for tender areas not compatible with the stronger percussive massage. The Theragun PRO Plus incorporates both modes to deliver comprehensive pain relief for the body. Thermotherapy and cryotherapy Theragun PRO Plus provides both heat and cold therapy for a well-rounded recovery. The built-in heat therapy comes in three temperature levels (45°C/113°F, 50°C/122°F, 55°C/131°F). The application of heat enhances blood circulation, thus easing muscle pain and relieving muscle stiffness. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG While the cold therapy is an add-on for Theragun PRO Plus , it is recommended for athletes with chronic pain. In contrast to heat therapy, cold therapy works by decreasing blood flow to reduce inflammation and swelling. LED light therapy Theragun PRO Plus uses near-infrared LED light therapy in combination with other modes for a quicker and more effective recovery. Near-infrared light penetrates deeper into the cells to stimulate cellular regeneration and boost blood circulation. Breathwork therapy The recovery experience is personalised with the guided routines on the Therabody app. From calming breathwork to soothing TheraMind sound therapy, nourish both the mind and the body with Theragun PRO Plus . Product review with John Yeong Explore the benefits of Theragun PRO Plus with John Yeong. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG How is your experience with the Theragun PRO Plus? I have used many massage guns before this, as part of being an athlete in the past and living an active life, but I believe we have found a game changer based on the upgrades that include heat and cold therapy, LED light therapy, and a combination of various functions. What are your thoughts on the massage therapy speeds? Theragun PRO Plus device comes with five percussive therapy speeds: 1750 RPM, 1900 RPM, 2100 RPM, 2200 RPM, and 2400 RPM. The percussive therapy can also be used with the different attachments: wedge, standard ball, dampener, thumb, and micropoint. My favourite attachment would be the dampener, and using 1900 RPM or 2100 RPM. How has Theragun PRO Plus helped with reducing soreness for your training session? PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Intensity and training load hasn’t been the highest, but as my fitness levels are lower than what it was last year, having the Theragun PRO Plus has helped me speed up my recovery in between training sessions. What are some differences you feel while using the product, especially when it comes to post-run recovery and circulation? I own a previous model of the Theragun - the Theragun Prime, and while the Prime helps with reducing post training soreness, the Theragun PRO Plus is definitely superior in improving overall circulation. Last night I was helping Chermaine, my girlfriend, with her ankle pain and we used the “ankle pain” and “post-run recovery” guided sessions on Therabody and she immediately had a better night’s sleep. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG How convenient has the app made it for users who may be using therapy products for the first time? I have not used guided routines before Theragun PRO Plus , so it may sound like I am exaggerating, but wow. From telling you which area to focus on, to letting you know if you are applying optimal pressure, and how much time to focus on for each body part, the guided routines have been nothing short of fantastic. Particularly for newbies and those who need help. The guided routines have even helped me uncover new areas of tightness and soreness that I didn’t know existed, simply because it brought the Theragun to parts of my lower extremities I usually focus less on during recovery. What’s your favourite feature? PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG I would say the heat therapy and the LED Light Therapy have to be the coolest parts of the Theragun PRO Plus . Cutting-edge technology all rolled into one, taking post-run recovery to a new level. How do you customise your user experience through the Therabody app? We can choose specific routines for different parts of the body - each routine also tells you the estimated time it will take to complete, and when to change the attachments during the session. The app removes a lot of guesswork we previously had to do on our own, which is especially handy if you are a lot less experienced with massage guns. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG Which therapy setting helps you most in your recovery and why? Heat therapy. For heat therapy, I focus a lot more on my hamstrings and IT bands as they are the tightest areas for me because of old football injuries. I will sometimes use it as part of my warm-up routine, just to loosen any unnecessary tightness before I head out for my run or workouts. The Verdict Theragun PRO Plus’s all-rounded functions and personalisation experience prove to be the ultimate massage gun. From versatile therapies to a biometric sensor for heart rate readings, the feature-rich device is also ergonomic for a comfortable experience. Theragun PRO Plus is perfect for athletes who train regularly and are looking for a comprehensive at-home recovery. *Disclaimer: For your safety, follow the guidelines outlined in the Theragun PRO Plus guide.

Save your favourite routines from the Therabody App directly into your Theragun Sense device to personalise your recovery. For Overall Wellness Not only does Theragun Sense help with body wellness, it supports the mind too. The TheraMind sound therapy on the app can be incorporated with Theragun Sense massage therapy to enhance your post workout recovery and ensure a good night’s sleep. I call it my little trusty buddy now. Which attachment has helped the most with your knee after coming back from an ACL injury last October? The micro-point is my favourite so far. - Exploring 20 Years of Innovation with the Garmin Forerunner Series
We speak with Garmin Asia’s Assistant General Manager, Scoppen Lin, who shares some valuable insights into the industry about the innovation and evolution of the Forerunner series PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Fitness trackers and smart watches are no longer nice-to-haves but must-haves for the modern everyday athlete. In an age where we are becoming highly impatient consumers, and at a time where sports wearables are as easily accessible to just about everyone as ordering lunch from the food court, it can be difficult for us to appreciate the evolution, research and redesign that has gone behind our latest gadgets. SportPlus.sg recently had the privilege of speaking with Garmin Asia’s Assistant General Manager, Scoppen Lin, in celebration of 20 years of the Garmin Forerunner , as part of its launch of the its latest Forerunner 965 and 265 models. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Garmin has certainly come a long way having first started in aviation with GPS navigation in 1989, before expanding to various industries including automotive, marine, outdoor, and fitness wearables in 2003. Over the past two decades since then, the Forerunner series has been providing precise data analysis for runners including tracking data such as distance, speed, and heart rate. In fact, in 2022 alone, over 320,000 new Forerunner users were added in Asia, and despite the pandemic, running activities by Garmin users in Asia increased by 24% from 2020 to 2022. 1. Congratulations on reaching the 20 year milestone for Forerunner! The Garmin Forerunner series has become a modern icon, opening up limitless possibilities for sports lovers. How would you personally define the Forerunner yourself, and set it apartfrom Garmin's other popular offerings such as the Fenix? Scoppen : Thank you! I would personally define the Forerunner as the perfect running companion, catering to runners of different levels. With its accurate GPS system, and features known to Garmin watches such as the Morning Report and HRV Status, the Forerunner recommends the best possible actions for my next run. At Garmin, we have many watches for different demographics. For example, if you’re into golf you would be more suited to getting an Approach. The Forerunner was made for runners in mind. Aside from activity and sport specific smartwatches, we have our popular lifestyle ranges such as the Venu range as well as the vívomove range, where function meets fashion, making these wrist gems a great addition to any wardrobe. Meanwhile, the fēnix series would be perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG 2. Garmin has broken down Forerunner's evolution into 3 parts - 2003 - 2010: From Wild Ambition to Practical Application, 2011 - 2018: Running Science Proven by Data, 2019 - 2023: The Zenith of Your Training is Daily Life. How significant were each of these stages in the evolution of the Forerunner to become the watch it is today in 2023? Scoppen: From 2003 - 2010, Garmin conceptualised the idea of a running smartwatch to actualising it, this is where the birth of the world’s first GPS running watch, and what would be the start of a 20 year legacy in the running smartwatch community. From 2011 - 2018, it was about fine-tuning the science and innovation behind the Forerunner. Introducing features such as WIFI/Bluetooth connectivity to your phone, Garmin’s Running Dynamic feature and a better battery life, Garmin continues to progressively improve the hardware and software features of the watch to stay relevant and meet the demands of runners. Finally from 2019 - 2023, the focus is on designed for runners by runners, with user feedback propeling innovation. With the acquisition of Firstbeat Analytics (a leading provider of physiological analytics for health, fitness and performance ) in 2020, Garmin continues its reputation in providing accurate, detailed and insightful data on performance and progress to help our consumers to reach their peak physical condition. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG 3. In 2022 alone, over 320,000 new Forerunner users were added in Asia, and despite the pandemic, running activities by Garmin users in Asia increased by 24% from 2020 to 2022. What would you attribute the rise in popularity of both the Forerunner and running in generalto? Scoppen: The Forerunner has always been the leading running smartwatch in the market, 20 years of the Forerunner is a testament to that. Interest and popularity in running during the pandemic was no surprise, especially in Singapore during the (covid-19) lockdown where activities such as running and hiking took a spike as people were getting restless being stuck at home and needing an outlet to leave their homes. It would only be natural for people who took a greater interest in running during and continued to do so after the pandemic restrictions, to use the Forerunner as their choice of running companion due to the precise and useful data Garmin provides, as well as the analysis of these data that help runners craft a personalised training plan. As the saying goes, if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together! Communities are an important space where people can connect through the same interest and express and support each other in a safe environment. The Garmin Run Club has helped Singaporeans develop good running habits and form support and camaraderie with other runners. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG 4.The Forerunner 965 and 265 has been branded as designed by runners, for runners. How important is it to have actual runners be part of the design process for the series? Scoppen: At Garmin, we closely monitor the evolving needs and preferences of our target audience, in this instance it is runners. Engaging with customers through surveys, focus groups and social media interactions, we gathered their feedback to produce the optimal Forerunner to date. As runners ourselves we understand the pain points and features that would be truly beneficial to a runner. It’s important to take note of the end users’ feedback, to ensure we produce a product that aligns with their daily needs. 5. The Forerunner 965 and 265 has also been labelled as the most progressive watches featuring AMOLED touchscreens. Will Garmin's other watches also follow suit in this direction, and apart from new colours, how does this set you apartfrom your competition? Scoppen: In an ever competitive and evolving market, we’ll continue to ensure our devices remain technologically advanced, aligning with market demands and more importantly our customers' needs. For example, with the AMOLED touchscreen being introduced to the Forerunner series, customers were worried that this would compromise the battery life of the smartwatch. But in fact, the Forerunner 965 has a stronger battery life compared with its predecessors. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSEIN, SPORTPLUS.SG Our commitment for quality hardware as well as advanced software features helps to set us apart from our competitors. Garmin offers a variety of products to cater to varying consumer lifestyle demands. For instance, in our outdoor wearables like fēnix and Instinct series, we also introduced a breakthrough Power Glass solar charging lens technology to offer an even more rewarding battery life. By replacing previous solar panels with a super-transparent glass lens, we have created devices built for extreme outdoor adventure. Combined with Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) display technology, this produces a clear and legible screen suitable for smart wearable devices, maintaining high clarity and low power usage even under direct sunlight. #GarminSg #ForeRunner
- Garmin Forerunner 265 Review: Lightweight, Affordable with AMOLED Screen Upgrade
Featuring a cool and modern-looking AMOLED touch screen, the Forerunner 265 is a nice upgrade to its predecessors, and provides good training and health data to help everyday athletes optimise their trainings PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG In a world of smart watches offering a plethora of options, it can be difficult to find one that is best suited for your training needs. While buying the most high-end watch may not make sense to you if you are a weekend warrior simply looking to utilise some basic features to support your training runs or cycles, having a watch that is too basic for your training needs may result in insufficient data which could be critical for more serious athletes looking to optimise their training cycle. Here we review two of Garmin's latest watches from the Forerunner series in two parts, the Forerunner 265 and Forerunner 965, and share our thoughts on each watch. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG For those who are new to Garmin's world, it usually takes around 3-4 weeks of consistent wearing of the watch to establish an accurate baseline of data for the user, prior to which there wouldn't be enough data to provide you with accurate readings on things such as your VO2Max, heart rate variability, as well as things like training readiness and race day predictors. By and large, what has generally been found to be useful in Garmin watches is its ability to predict how your training will go on a given day based on your overall well-being and how well-rested you are. It is also able to show if you are peaking and in optimal race condition, or too stressed and been lacking in sleep quality. For these to be accurate however, you would need to be wearing your Garmin watch most of the time, even when you go to bed. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG Forerunner 265 User Experience So how do the latest Forerunner watches fare in these areas and beyond? In part 1 of our two-part review we ask social runner Chermaine Zhou , who recently completed her first overseas half-marathon at the Gold Coast Marathon about her experience wearing the Garmin Forerunner 265 in the lead-up to and during race day. How long have you been using Garmin watches? What is the previous model of Garmin watch you were wearing before switching to the Garmin Forerunner 265? Also, what are the most noticeable differences between Forerunner 265 and your previous smart watch model? I've actually been using Garmin for about 2 years now. I invested in a Garmin watch after my previous smartwatch showed that I was running 200 - 300m shorter than everyone else when I was running with my friends, so I really wanted my runs to show up accurately, and since I've invested in a Garmin, I've not looked back since. PHOTO: JOHN YEONG, SPORTPLUS.SG My previous Garmin watch was a 255S, and the one I am using now is an upgraded one which is the Forerunner 265 . There are quite a lot of differences in the two versions. First difference being the screen size, my previous Forerunner 255S had a smaller screen size of about 1.1 inch, this screen size is much bigger at 1.3 inches (do note that Forerunner 265 also offers a 1.1 inch option) Another notable difference between the two is that Forerunner 265 has touch screen capabilities making it more versatile when toggling between functions, and the colours are showing up much more vibrantly, giving me a much more immersive experience. PHOTO: JOHN YEONG, SPORTPLUS.SG Overall Battery Life The second thing I noticed is the battery life. When I first purchased my Forerunner 255S, I was shocked that I didn't really have to charge it much, whereas my previous smart watch I had to charge it everyday. So I was really happy I could bring my Garmin watch on a holiday without needing to bring my charging cables. Now with the Forerunner 265 it has an even better battery life, I believe it can last for up to 23 days without charging, but of course if you use it in GPS mode then it does eat up quite a bit, but even then the battery life is still amazing compared to other watches I know on the market. PHOTO: JOHN YEONG, SPORTPLUS.SG Music On the Go In my previous watch, the functions of Forerunner 255S it didn't have the music function embedded into it, even though there was another music option. In this version of Forerunner 265 I am really happy that I am able to directly download music into the watch. This allows me to go out without having to worry about my music not being able to play, I can go out for my runs even without my phone. Tracking Taining / Performance Across Activities I have used various functions of the Garmin Forerunner 265 so far. I have used it for my Yoga sessions, I have used it for my runs, I've also used it for HIIT sessions, so the Garmin Forerunner 265 has a variety of activities that are beginner friendly. You can track your swim, your cycling and even for hikes so I actually used it pretty recently in my trip to Sydney and for my hike up Bondi beach. It helps to track my heart rate, and monitor things too that guide my overall training load. It has been very helpful for me while training leading up to my ASICS half-marathon at Gold Coast. It is really helpful to be guided with relevant data for my trainings and accurately know the pace I was running at not just for trainings but even throughout my entire race, so I was able to pace myself well at different parts of my run. PHOTO: JOHN YEONG, SPORTPLUS.SG I also really like that I can track my sleep on it, it tells me the quality of sleep I am having, and whether I am ready for training based on the amount of rest I am getting. I really wear it everywhere - from the shower to sleep etc. I am really able to track how much recovery I have or need after a tough training run. Key Features & Specifications The Forerunner 26 5 comes with a 1.3-inch display. This larger display provides a more immersive experience when viewing your stats, maps, and other information on the watch's face. The Garmin Forerunner 255 also comes in a smaller version that features a 1.1-inch display for those who feel 1.3-inch may look a bit bulky if they have a small wrist. The Forerunner 265 features a fibre-reinforced polymer bezel that is more lightweight and affordable compared to its more expensive counterpart the Forerunner 965. This fibre-reinforced polymer bezel on the Forerunner 265 offers good protection against wear and tear while keeping the overall weight of the watch low. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG The watch also features a new AMOLED display in vivid colours and deeper blacks for greater visual appeal and clarity, providing a superior viewing experience compared to its predecessors. The fact that it is also a touchscreen allows for more simpler navigation toggling through different stats and maps on the watch face itself. Fitness and Performance Tracking The Garmin Forerunner 265 is equipped with heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and stress level monitoring to provide insights into the user's overall well-being. There are also guided breathing exercises to help users manage stress and improve relaxation. For training performance and fitness tracking, GPS tracking helps users monitor pace, distance, and route during activities such as running, cycling, and hiking as well as advanced data metrics such as VO2max, stride length and cadence, to help athletes tweak their training performance and optimise their race strategy. PHOTO: HANIDA HUSSIEN, SPORTPLUS.SG The Forerunner 265 offers activity profiles for running, indoor running, cycling, and cardio workouts, with training plans and coaching also available through the Garmin Connect app, where users can customise their workouts based on specific fitness goals and performance data. While Garmin Forerunner 265 doesn't have full mapping capabilities preloaded onto the watch like the Garmin Forerunner 965, it still carries basic navigation features that are certainly useful for runners and hikers. Users can also import routes onto the watch. Overall Verdict The Forerunner 265 is a good watch for everyday athletes, particularly if you are a runner. While the standout difference between the Forerunner 265 and its predecessors is a cool and modern-looking AMOLED screen, the training and health data that the watch provides is great too. The battery life is also really good and it charges very quickly. Do note that we have not reviewed this watch for other activities beyond running, and if you are a cyclist or swimmer you may wish to consider other reviews to provide you with a more informed choice. #GarminSg #ForeRunner265
- Garmin Forerunner 965 Review: Advanced Navigation and Full Mapping Capability
Known for its premium aesthetics and features, is Forerunner's newest high-end smartwatch worth upgrading to if you already own a pervious Garmin? PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG In part two of our Garmin sports watch review series we discuss the Garmin Forerunner 965 , known for its premium aesthetics and features, and whether it is worth an upgrade to this watch if you are already an owner of a Garmin Forerunner 955 or similar watch. Going for a retail price of SGD $919, the Garmin Forerunner 965 is known for its premium aesthetics and features, with an AMOLED touch screen the most notable and visible upgrades, making it the jewel of the Forerunner series at present. If you are new to smart watches or have only just begun your training journey, you may also wish to consider that the Garmin Forerunner 965 and Forerunner 955 are higher end advanced sports watches that belong in the top-tier with comprehensive sports, health and fitness tracking capabilities and will thus be on the pricier side. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Depending on your own daily training needs, you might wish to consider a more basic sports watch at the entry level or a mid-tier option that is more affordable with some similar capabilities to the Forerunner 965 such as the Garmin Forerunner 265 . You can read our review of the Garmin Forerunner 265 here . If you are ready to consider a higher end option though, both the Forerunner 965 and Forerunner 955 are both excellent, high-spec smartwatches that offer you plenty of training tools to help athletes understand their progress, sleep and recovery. The Garmin Forerunner 955 was launched a little less than a year before Garmin Forerunner 965 did, with the latter featuring an AMOLED touch screen as one of its biggest upgrades. The Forerunner 965 features a larger, 1.4-inch display, with this larger display complete with a titanium bezel around it providing a more immersive and colourful experience when viewing your data and maps. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG In comparison to the Forerunner 955, the Forerunner 965 has a slightly thinner case albeit a little heavier due to its titanium bezel although the difference is negligible and won't put people off buying the latter. The bezel's does provide better resistance against scratches and impacts though, making it an ideal choice for runner and athletes who would want a durable and long-lasting. Beyond just the aesthetics there are quite a few software upgrades too with the Forerunner 965 , with more data packed into the watch and wrist-based dynamics that allow you to run without a chest strap and heart rate monitor and still get equally useful training data - things like vertical oscillation and ground contact time. Fitness Tracking & Unified Training Status Similar to other Garmin watches, things like heart-rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and stress level monitoring to provide insights into your overall well-being are part of the Forerunner 965 . In fact, if you are already a previous Garmin user, you will be happy to know that one of the key updates for Forerunner 965 is the Unified Training Status , which helps synchronise even more performance metrics across different devices, namely Training Status, Training Readiness and HRV Status. Each time a compatible device syncs, the data will be updated on the primary Garmin wearable you use most often to log your workouts and key activities. Additionally, the Forerunner 965 also features guided breathing exercises to help you manage stress levels and enhance recovery and relaxation. Advanced metrics such as vertical oscillation, VO2 max, cadence, stride length and ground contact time can also help you fine-tune your performance overall. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Advanced Navigation, Full Mapping Capability One of the things I like most, since I do quite a bit of trail running, is the Forerunner 965's enhanced mapping capabilities. While I haven't made full use of the features in this watch as I am pretty familiar with Singapore's terrain (i.e. MacRitchie), I have tested out the the maps on the Forerunner 965 and there is a greater level of detail at every zoom level compared to previous Garmin watch models. Whether you are doing trail running or hiking, you will find the advanced navigation capabilities of the watch useful, particularly with pre-loaded topographical, road, and trail maps that can also be downloaded from Garmin Connect app. If you do choose to select a course to follow, you will be guided on whether you are on track / on course by different colours on the screen that indicate the route you have completed versus the one you have yet to complete. This new feature definitely makes it a great option for outdoor enthusiasts who wish to explore new routes without needing to rely on their mobile phones or physical maps while on the go. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Acute Load vs Chronic Training Load Other advanced training feature I really like is the ability to track training load over longer periods of time - i.e. monitoring and observing your training load ratio to show the relationship between Chronic Load (approx 28 days) and Acute Load at a glance. This is useful for those who work with structured training blocks for their trainings, and need to know how to adjust their training load based on how they are performing and the amount of rest they are getting. Even for everyday non-elite athletes, having this ratio as an indicator and understanding the numbers could help you make more informed decisions on whether to increase or decrease your training load over a period of time, instead of just relying on your training readiness readings. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG More Activity Profiles There are also way more sports and activity modes to toggle through than before, and even if you can't find your particular activity you can add them in manually - great for me as I do quite a bit of cross-training across other sports. For fitness tracking, the Forerunner 965 also offers expanded Activity Profile options for swimming, skiing, paddle sports, on top of the default sports like running, cycling and triathlon. With the help of additional training plans that can be downloaded from the Garmin Connect app, everyday users can customise their workouts based on their own personal fitness goals and performance data. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Battery Life While Garmin's watches are known for the longevity of their batteries, the Garmin Forerunner 965 may have had to sacrifice a bit of juice in order to power its new AMOLED touch screen features. While Garmin says it can last up to 13 days in smartwatch mode and up to 20 hours in GPS mode, we would say it more likely operates at about 6-8 hours when used fully for GPS outdoor workouts, but the good news is that it charges very quickly and now comes with USB-C cables too for charging. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Overall Verdict So is it worth upgrading to the Forerunner 965 then? If you have yet to own a Garmin and are looking to do some serious training or are an advanced athlete, it is definitely worth considering and would most likely be a value-for-money purchase. However, if you are looking at a more affordable option without the nice aesthetics and enhanced navigation features, we would say that the Forerunner 955 can certainly do an equally good enough job for your trainings and races. #GarminSg #ForeRunner965

PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG For Singapore marathoner Melvin Wong , the Training Readiness feature on his Garmin Forerunner is one that he enjoys using often. Training Readiness is assessed based on sleep quality, recovery, training load and more. This helps determine whether it’s a good day to go hard or take it easy. “Training Readiness gives you a summary snapshot of how ready you are for training. It is not meant to tell you if you should run or not run that day, but could help you decide if a run should be pushed back by a few hours in order to perform better,” Melvin shared. “I believe that blending how I feel together with the matrix that is generated by the watch can help me make informed decisions.” PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG With Garmin being a partner for the Sydney Marathon: Singapore Chapter , whether you’ve signed up for the Sydney Marathon or are preparing for any other run no matter the distance, the Race Widget of the Forerunner is sure to get you ready for your next race. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG The Garmin Forerunner series is a watch that will not only help you train smart but train right, which is crucial in any training programme. Using indicators such as heart rate variability (HRV) status, recent exercise history and performance, the Training Status feature gives an easy insight into overall effort to show if you’re training productively, peaking, or strained. Other features include the colourful Amoled touchscreen display that is bright and easy to read under varying weather conditions. The feature is something endurance athlete Sebastian Cheong enjoys most about the Forerunner 965. PHOTO: HANA BASIR, SPORTPLUS.SG " For the Forerunner 965, the significant difference is the AMOLED display, which is the touch screen display which I really love. It’s super sharp and super clear. I can just swipe using my finger to the function that I want," he shared. As an ultra-distance runner, Sebastian only listens to music when he has to run more than 20km. He shares the option of shedding off the extra weight and going phone-free. " You can add in apps like Spotify and download music into the watch without having to have your phone around with you. Another good thing is that I can pair up my wireless earphones with the watch too," said the runner.
