Elevating the Game: Singapore Secures Prestigious WTA 500 Status for 2026 Tournament

SINGAPORE, 30 June 2026 - The world of professional tennis is set to descend upon Singapore this September as the Singapore Tennis Open (STO) returns with a major status upgrade. Officially elevated to a WTA 500 tournament, the event will anchor the start of the prestigious WTA Asian Swing, marking a significant milestone for tennis in Southeast Asia.
Taking place from 21 to 27 September 2026 at the OCBC Arena at The Kallang, the upgraded tournament promises a higher tier of competition, increased ranking points, and a larger prize pool, solidifying Singapore’s position on the global professional tennis map.
A New Era for Professional Tennis in Singapore
Moving from a WTA 250 to a WTA 500 event places Singapore among an elite group of just 18 such tournaments worldwide. This prestigious tier ensures a more competitive international player field, as athletes look to secure critical ranking points during the final, decisive stretch of the season before the year-end championships.
With a total prize pool of approximately US$1.2 million, the tournament will feature a 28-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw, bringing elite-level athleticism to Singapore’s hard courts.

Alexandra Eala Headlines Return
Adding to the excitement, fan-favorite Alexandra Eala is confirmed to return to Singapore. The current World No. 32 and highest-ranked Filipino player in WTA history has fond memories of the city, having competed here as a junior player at the WTA Future Stars.
Fresh off historic 2025 performances—including becoming the first Filipino player to reach a WTA 1000 semifinal and the round of 16 at the US Open—Eala is expected to be a major force on the court this September.
