Everything You Need to Know About the 2026 Course Reveal: Sheares Bridge Returns, Safer Start Times, and a Historic Sell-Out Warning

SINGAPORE, 18 August 2026 - As the clock ticks 16 weeks out to race weekend, organisers of the BYD Singapore International Marathon presented by adidas have officially dropped the much-anticipated course map.
Landing precisely 16 weeks ahead of the December showstopper, this strategic route reveal gives runners the ideal runway to dial in their training blocks, conquer hill simulations, and prepare for Singapore's premier running festival and only national marathon.

With fewer than 900 full marathon slots remaining for local residents for this year's race, momentum is gathering and building towards an all-time high after an initial shaky start when registrations first opened.
Organisers of this year's event are confident of a complete sellout of the marathon category before the end of the month—tracking to be the earliest full marathon sellout since 2017, when the category last hit capacity (albeit not until November).

Safety First: A Runner-Centric Approach
Runner safety takes absolute priority for this year's edition, addressing historical pain points and introducing comprehensive structural upgrades:
Top-Tier Educational Guidance: To help participants prepare intelligently, organisers have teamed up with Singapore's top marathoner, Soh Rui Yong, rolling out specialised training and educational content. The guide, labelled "A Guide To Going the Distance in Singapore", is available for download on the event's website here, with over 500 downloads already on the very first evening after the training guide was announced.
The New Medic Runners Initiative: Over 200 certified medic runners will be strategically distributed directly on course, ensuring rapid-response medical coverage and peace of mind from flag-off to the finish line.
Beating the Heat on West Coast Highway: Infamous in the 2024 edition for cooking runners under the glaring tropical sun, the West Coast Highway stretch (hitting around the 6km mark) has been smartly rescheduled to the cool cover of darkness before sunrise, drastically slashing the risk of heat-related injuries.

Iconic Course Highlights: Sheares Bridge Returns and Wider Paths Overall
The 2026 course layout balances breathtaking city landmarks with massive logistical tweaks designed to maximise flow and reduce bottlenecks:
The Return of Benjamin Sheares Bridge: Singapore’s national marathon welcomes back its most iconic climb! Full marathoners and half marathoners will face the majestic Sheares Bridge at the 36km mark (serving as the 16km mark for the half marathoners)—a true test of grit right when mental and physical fatigue peaks. Massive food and hydration zones complete with refreshing sponges will also be strategically stationed along the course ahead of potential danger and higher risk zones.

Mono-Directional Flow and East Coast Park Expansion: To eliminate the dreaded two-way congestion of past years, over 90% of the route is strictly mono-directional. Crucially, the East Coast Park section will now utilise two mono-directional running lanes instead of the traditional shared service road, effectively widening the corridor to keep traffic fluid and stress-free. Later stages weave through shaded coastal stretches to offer natural relief from the heat.
Spectacular National Stadium Finish: The race culminates in a grand homecoming inside the National Stadium, featuring a never-before-seen immersive finish chute experience with more surprise announcements dropping soon.

10KM and 5KM: Singapore’s Premier Night Lights Experience
Not forgetting the shorter distances, the 10KM and 5KM events are stepping out under the stars as Singapore’s only fully sanctioned night races for these categories.
Free from the punishing daytime sun, these evening loops offer local runners a rare, prime opportunity to clock a brand-new Personal Best (PB). Meanwhile, the ultra-straightforward 5KM route doubles as a fantastic, low-stress shakeout option for full marathoners looking to stretch their legs during race weekend.

Secure Your Spot Before They're Gone
With history in the making and a sub-August sellout all but guaranteed, time has officially run out for fence-sitters.
