- Homegrown label Sunday Shades unveils new line of sunglasses with Flare series
New frame of Flare series breaks the mould from Sunday Shades' classic design, as brand takes a leap of faith in embracing fun and being different Sunday Shades' new Flare series will initially be available in three colours, but will eventually feature up to 8 colourways. PHOTO: JOHN YEONG, SPORTPLUS.SG Singapore, 10 November 2022 — Known for their polarised Asian-fit sunglasses that do not bounce and slip off while you participate in sporting activities, Sunday Shades Co. has really taken off in the local sporting community over the past few years with both elite athletes and weekend warriors seen sporting various colourful hues from the beach volleyball courts to running trails and over the water on kayaks and dragonboats. Fizzy Fantasy from Sunday Shades' new Flare series. PHOTO: SUNDAY SHADES CO. As the homegrown eyewear brand prepares to launch its latest Flare series, a bold move away from the classic shape and design its been known for, we speak with co-founder Kenneth Tan about Sunday Shades Co.'s inspirations, the journey they have been on, what we can expect from their upcoming shades and also plans for the future. Sunday Shades Co. has certainly taken off and you guys have made a name for yourselves in the local sports scene. How happy are you with the responses so far from the community? KT: We are very grateful and happy for all the support we've received. What started as an experiment and side hustle became our full time commitment now and we cannot ask for more. We are especially thankful to all the ambassadors who agreed to work with us when we were starting out, even though we were then a tiny and unknown brand. Lion City Sailors Women's Team goalkeeper Beatrice Tan sporting Sunday Shades' new "Go for Gold" Surge series. PHOTO: SUNDAY SHADES CO. You shared previously you are constantly getting feedback from athletes and actual Sunday Shades wearers on areas to improve before you go back to manufacture and redesign your new glasses - how many significant iterations of Sunday Shades has there been already? KT: We are always soliciting feedback from actual users because we believe that is only way to make our shades even better. For example, the rubberised coating that we use on most of our shades came from a feedback from an ultra-marathoner. After using our shades for his ultra-marathon, he feedbacked how he loved that the shades was so lightweight that he forgot it was even there. However, he said it would even be better to have a rubberised coating. We had rubberised coating for the next release and these shades have become our top seller. When designing a new shape, we can have as much as 10 iterations of the prototype before settling on one that we are completely satisfied with. We are currently working on a new shape and we had to start again because the finished product fits differently from the final prototype. We'd rather delay the launch than releasing something that is not up to our fans’ expectations. Triathlete Yuthika sporting his Sunday Shades overseas. PHOTO: SUNDAY SHADES CO. What is the inspiration behind each of the Classic, Tempo, Surge, and the upcoming Flare series? KT: Sunday Shades started with just one design - Classic. When starting out, we did not have much budget and we wanted a shape that is unisex and suitable for most face shapes. The Classic shape is popular and never goes out of style so we started with that. Tempo is our second series and it is a bit more rectangular compared to the Classic. We wanted something that flatters without any hard angles and Tempo was born. Surge was our third series as we wanted a rounder shape that is suitable for both men and women. We wanted our next series to be fun and different. The idea for a single piece of lens came up as we were discussing the possibility of producing cycling sunglasses for our tropical weather. Since that will require more research, we decided to create a series that is fun and functional – and the eventually became Flare. Yogi Miryam Acosta in her Cosmic Wave Classic shades. PHOTO: SUNDAY SHADES CO. Which series is actually the most popular among athletes? Classic, Tempo or Surge? KT: Classic. Probably simply because we started with Classic and we have much more variations of that compared to the rest. Which sports have you seen using Sunday Shades apart from running and beach volleyball? Any notable athletes we know? KT: We’ve seen athletes using it during beach workouts, outdoor crossfit sessions, cycling (we are OCBC Cycle’s official eyewear partner), dragonboating, longboard skating, kayaking, windsurfing etc. Hopefully more to come! Nigel and Andre of Elevate Performance Coaching with their Sunday Shades. PHOTO: SUNDAY SHADES CO. What can fans / consumers expect from the new upcoming Flare series that makes it different from the other earlier series? KT: Flare is our most futuristic design yet. It features a striking single piece of lens that is unlike any of our existing designs. It is slightly larger than the Classic, which ensures more coverage. Most of the Flare’s lens colors are not available in any of the existing series. There will be 8 colorways eventually during the first phase of the release, but our first release will be 3 colourways. PHOTO: SUNDAY SHADES CO. Do you personally have a prefered pair of Sunday Shades that you like to wear? Why? KT: I would like to say ALL, but that wouldn’t be accurate (laughs). Here are the co-founder’s favourite Sunday Shades: My favourite is the Ocean Surf X Classic. I love the semi-transparent blue which goes well with almost anything. I feel it is classy enough for everyday wear and also for sports. Dorothy’s favourite is the Tembusu X Classic because the matte green is unique and refreshing. Its stands out without being garish. Raymond’s favourite is the new Solar Wind Flare because it is uber comfortable, uber light, and the lens colour while very cool, is understated. Visit Sunday Shades Co.'s official website to snag your own pair of shades today, and keep a lookout for the hugely popular Flare series, to be released on Friday, 11 November 2022! #SundayShadesCo #Sunglasses #Activewear

- Guess the Mystery Shoe: ASICS teases Running Community with an Unnamed Shoe
Come 2023 January, ASICS will be launching an all-new iteration of one of its ranges of running shoes with comfort at the forefront of its design PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG In what is its most ambitious and innovative campaign yet, global sports brand ASICS has released a teaser of its newest and most exciting product yet, to be launched on 9 January 2023. SportPlus.sg is one of the first few in the region, and one of just five in Singapore to try out the new 'mystery shoe' ahead of its slated launch next month. John Yeong, founder of SportPlus.sg and a running enthusiast, took the mystery shoe out for a couple of runs over the past week before giving his verdict on ASICS' newest product. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG You can watch the highlights from his run via Instagram Reels here. Studies have shown that comfort is the number one consideration for runners when purchasing new running shoes. So how do the new shoes fare in terms of comfort, and what are John's thoughts after taking them out for his runs? PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG How did you feel wearing and running with the mystery shoes? What are three things you love about running in these shoes? JY: Obviously, I have my favourites when it comes to race day shoes - but for your regular daily trainers without all those fancy tech, this has got to be the most comfortable pair so far. Firstly, from the moment you slip them on, you can already feel the cushioning all around your foot - heel counter all the way around to the front. It feels like my foot is wrapped in pillows. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG Second, I think it is also a pretty decent stack height which means runners who wear these are in for a cushioned ride, and will thoroughly enjoy the experience. Lastly, I am always particular about the toe box area as I have pretty broad feet and this shoe is a good fit as well as it doesn't pinch on my toes, even when I took the shoes around sharper turns during the wear test. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG How does the mystery shoe fare in comparison with other pairs of ASICS shoes in terms of its increased comfort? JY: I have always been a fan of ASICS shoes at least when it comes to running. They are pretty consistent when it comes to producing shoes that are comfortable for running. My current favourite for 2022 is the ASICS NOVABLAST 3, which I use for most of my easy runs, but I feel that pair is now under threat with the release of these new shoes in January. PHOTO: SPORTPLUS.SG How does the increased comfort of the shoes enhance your running experience? JY: There are many people who are skeptical about how running shoes can improve a runner's experience. Especially friends of mine who don't actually run regularly or not as active in the scene. But I can tell you for a fact for someone who runs regularly it does make a world of difference. For one, it makes me want to go a little further when I am wearing a pair of running shoes I find comfortable - instead of just tolerating the run because I have to. These new mystery shoes are a pair I would even wear out for walks and feels a bit multi-functional, I may be wrong but I am just guessing they are best suited to be your daily trainers because they are a pair I could probably wear for 60-70 percent of my runs in my shoe rotation. #ASICSSG #NothingFeelsBetter #MysteryShoe
- Amazin’ Graze Protein Blends and Protein Granola: For Gym Junkies, Athletes, and the Average Person
With many different brands on the market offering countless types of protein powder, Amazin Graze’s protein blends stand out in their use of vegan-friendly natural ingredients PHOTO: AMAZIN' GRAZE The average plate of chicken rice may be cheaper and seem more flavourful than a bowl of salad, but healthy snacks brand Amazin’ Graze has set out to create foods that are enjoyable, affordable, and nutritious. Founded in 2015, Amazin’ Graze is built on the belief that “you are what you eat” and have prided themselves in using fresh ingredients native to the Southeast Asian region. Their protein products—protein blends and protein granola—were developed on the premise that protein is an essential component of everyone’s diets and can reduce caloric intake as it curbs our appetites. Additionally, protein intake can effect muscle gain, injury recovery, and aid in weight loss. PHOTO: AMAZIN' GRAZE Amazin’ Graze Protein Blends With many different brands on the market offering countless types of protein powder, Amazin Graze’s protein blends stand out in their use of vegan-friendly natural ingredients. The blends come in two classic flavours—Oh-So-Vanilla and Choco-Holic—that are packed with antioxidant-rich superfoods and two billion CFU of probiotics for an immunity boost and to promote gut health respectively. There is also no added sugar. For fitness enthusiasts, protein shakes are useful before or after training sessions to kickstart and increase natural muscle protein synthesis that occurs during exercise. This helps to repair any muscle damage. PHOTO: AMAZIN' GRAZE Combined with resistance training, protein shakes can also increase muscle growth and amplify recovery. As muscle protein synthesis can increase for up to three hours after consuming protein, our bodies benefit from the elevated blood amino acids. However, even for those who are just looking for a supplement to their everyday diets, Amazin’ Graze’s protein blends can be used as a flour substitute for blueberry maple pancakes, waffles and protein cookies. They can also be swirled into coffee, yoghurt or oatmeal. PHOTO: AMAZIN' GRAZE Amazin’ Graze Protein Granola Though Amazin’ Graze may boast a selection of 12 granola flavours, after months of R&D, their Protein Granola was created and provides an especially power-packed breakfast in a bowl. A 50g serving of this granola provides 6.9g of protein which is 14% of what one should consume in a day (based on a 2000 calorie diet). For context, in general food guidelines, 5% is considered too low and 20% is considered high. Additionally, Amazin’ Graze used their fan-favourite ABC Nut Butter in this granola—making it a powerhouse protein-packed crowd-pleaser. PHOTO: AMAZIN' GRAZE Where to find Amazin’ Graze Amazin’ Graze’s products can be found in popular Singapore grocery stores such as Fair Price, Cold Storage, Sheng Siong, Giant, and also purchased directly online on Amazin' Graze's website. Though people may find healthy foods to be too expensive (which can be true), Amazin' Graze believes that healthy food should be accessible to everyone which is why they strive to maintain affordable prices. They have also commonly heard that many expect healthy foods to taste bad because it is healthy, which is a misconception and a hang up to most people who want to "Go Healthy." Their team works tirelessly to ensure that their products are nutritious, and firstly, delicious. PHOTO: AMAZIN' GRAZE The brand has been well received regionally and is expanding to other markets as they have seen a global surge of people becoming more health conscious. By keeping their packaging approachable and fun, they aim to become one of the pioneers to reach the masses. Overall, the Amazin’ Graze team works to raise awareness that protein is not just for gym junkies and hopes to break the myth that protein makes you bulky and just grows muscles. As the number of people who are aware of the importance of protein increases, they are committed to continue bridging the gap between everyday people and protein. #AmazinGrazeSG #Nutrition

- Emirates FA Cup Asia Pacific Trophy Tour 2023
The Emirates FA Cup makes historic first visit to Singapore, SportPlus.sg speaks with Chelsea football legend Joe Cole on the significance of the world's oldest football trophy PHOTO: SINGTEL Saturday, 28 January 2023 - Joe Cole was greeted by fans of various English Premier League supporter clubs during the tour of the FA Cup Trophy via a zoom call at a private event at the Soccer Bar in Singapore. Fans even posed next to the prestigious trophy that would greet the winners of the old club competition in England at Wembley. Singapore national players Isa Halim, Hassan Sunny, Ernie Sontaril, and Izwan Mahmud were also present to share their views on their FA Cup memories and their predictions for this season’s cup competition. PHOTO: SINGTEL Kevin Keagan was quoted as saying he could never remember anyone aged 17 who has got it all. Good pace. Good control. Good skill with a nice amount of confidence without arrogance. Fast forward 22 years, and the English playmaker can look back on a career that saw him gather a host of accolades, including three Premier League titles, two FA Cup winners’ medals, a FA Community shield medal, a FA League Cup medal and a runner-up Champions League medal. PHOTO: SINGTEL It was a pleasure being able to catch up with the Englishman with the skills of a Brazilian in the eyes of Pele to ask him 10 questions about his career and his take on the FA Cup. We started off with some quickfire finish the sentence questions: I knew I would make it as a football professional when… When I was walking out on the pitch on my first game. You never know when you are going to make it. There are so many things that could go wrong. As a kid, you must keep your head on your education. Until it happens, you cannot believe it, and it’s like, WOW, I’m a professional now! PHOTO: SINGTEL I have never told anyone this, but… I played for Everton as a schoolboy on a few occasions. If I could choose one thing about the beautiful game, it would be… Just to play. Play with joy. Play with freedom. Everyone enjoys it. My biggest regret in football is… Injuries. If you could not go for that tackle, not make that run, not get into those injuries. That would be it. PHOTO: SINGTEL If not a footballer, then… I would probably be working on the market in Camden Town. My family was in the fruits and vegetables greengrocers in market stalls. I’d probably gotten into the family business. What does the FA Cup mean to Joe Cole? The FA Cup means everything. It was the biggest competition growing up. Bigger than the Premier League. Bigger than the Champions League, believe it or not. That is hard for younger people to believe that. But as young English kids, that’s what it means. We looked forward to Cup Final day, and it was romantic. It added to history, and it means everything to me. PHOTO: SINGTEL Biggest Personal Glory at the FA Cup Lifting the trophy for the first time when we beat Manchester United. It was great, and it was an honour. It was the last of the domestic trophies that I wanted to win. It was just amazing to lift that trophy. Walking up those steps at Wembley and lift it is what dreams are made of. Who is Joe Cole's One Football Hero? Paul Gascoigne. He is the reason why I play football. He plays with a smile. He was someone I tried to emulate. Great player, and still one of the all-time greats of the English game. PHOTO: SINGTEL Who do you feel would be the Dark Horse of this season’s FA Cup? West Ham United, I feel like they are just set up for Cup football. They’ve underachieved so far in the season. They would probably end up in the middle of the table, not quite relegation. I think everyone else would have a lot to play for so I think West Ham might have their eyes on a cup competition this year. Joe Cole's Best Starting Eleven from the FA Cup 1. Petr Cech 2. The FA Cup kicks off this week with a mouth-watering clash between Arsenal and Manchester City before the rest of the clubs from across all the divisions try their best to create some form of history for their badge. It doesn’t get any better than this! #SportPlusSG #Football #FACup

This includes the use of eco-friendly materials and systems, energy-efficient light fittings, use of solar photovoltaic panels, and a “blue & green” roof to harness natural resources such as solar power and rainfall. The clubhouse is designed to boost natural ventilation and has an overhanging balcony that acts as shading for lower floors. Materials that minimise heat gain by the building were used in the construction, which reduces the clubhouse’s energy consumption. #SportPlusSG #HomeTeamNS #Fitness #ThingsToDo
