Fun Facts of Lunar New Year In Chinese culture, the majestic dragon represents strength and prosperity and is the only mythical creature of the 12 in the Chinese zodiac. Read on to find out how you can try to tip the scales in your favour and make your Chinese New Year celebrations a prosperous one! Dragon Dance & Lion Dance Considered to be one of the most auspicious creatures in Chinese culture, the dragon is celebrated with the enchanting dragon dance. As the dragon dance is complex and requires many performers, it is less commonly performed in Singapore compared to the lion dance. The familiar sounds of drums, gongs, and cymbals during Lunar New Year echo throughout neighbourhoods as Singaporeans who celebrate the occasion spend the day visiting friends and family. The dragon dance and lion dance are performed to the celebratory beats to chase away evil spirits and welcome in prosperity. Pineapple Tarts Pineapple tarts are not just delicious golden buttery treats with pineapple jam that you can never get enough of. In Hokkien, pineapples are called “ong lai” which is homonymous with "旺来'' in which 旺 (wàng in Mandarin) means “prosperous” and 来 (Lái) means “come”. A symbol of good fortune and prosperity, this makes pineapple tarts a must-have during the Lunar New Year. Red Heading for a Lunar New Year gathering and unsure of what colours to wear? You can never go wrong with red as the colour represents joy, happiness, luck, and prosperity in Chinese culture. Red packets also known as hongbaos are given out during the Lunar New Year by married couples to younger siblings and relatives. Just a tip – money packed in the hongbaos should be an even number. Mandarin Oranges The even numbers continue when exchanging mandarin oranges as this must be done in pairs. Offer the mandarin oranges with one orange in each hand, paired with auspicious greetings and a huge smile. #SgEvents #mySgSportsHub #ProsperityRun

Take public transport and arrive early On event days, congestion is expected due to the high volume of visitors and event-goers. For a stress-free start to your evening, arrive early at least 30 to 60 minutes before event time. Take public transport so you don’t get held up by traffic or trying to find parking. Find out more about the available train and bus options here. Purchase Merchandise from the Official Merchandise Booth Arriving early could also give concert-goers more time to buy merchandise at the Official Merchandise Booths or grab a bite before the event. Merchandise booths can typically be found outside the concert venue. Patrons can read up on the exact locations and operating hours of the merchandise booths in the event guide of that concert. Merchandise sold at the official booths are verified and identifiable so you can even use them immediately in the venue without facing any issues. Remember, it is always best to steer clear of purchasing from unauthorised sellers as those items being sold could potentially infringe copyright and put you at risk of being denied entry into the venue. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still dress up in theme! Have you decided which Taylor Swift era you will be dressing up as come March? Besides purchasing merchandise, fuel up with a meal with the variety of food options available at Kallang Wave Mall before the concert. Outside food and beverages are not allowed in the event venues, but fret not as light snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase. Travel light and avoid bringing prohibited items The Singapore Sports Hub is dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable, and fun environment for its patrons. To avoid any delays to your itinerary for the evening, read up on the event guide on the Singapore Sports Hub event page before your event. Leave unnecessary items at home and make more room for all the official merchandise you are going to snag. This will also help speed up the security bag-check process and shorten your waiting time to enter the venue. Get your tickets from Authorised Ticketing Partners Ensure that you purchase your tickets from the right places! The venue owner reserves the right to refuse entry to or remove any person from the venue if their tickets were not purchased from the Authorised Ticketing Partners for that specific event i.e., SISTIC, Ticketmaster, Ticketek. Download your e-ticket in advance and have it ready so that you don’t have to scroll through your email to look for the attachments at the door. As the full ticket is required, download the entire ticket file instead of only taking a screenshot of the ticket barcode/QR code. Check the Event Guide and plan ahead Check the Event Guide of your specific event on the Singapore Sports Hub website for the information you would need to plan your itinerary before the event. With that sorted, all that’s left to do is enjoy the music, embrace the atmosphere, and create lasting memories! #Concerts #SgEvents #mySgSportsHub

The event provided an opportunity for members of media to have the unique opportunity to pick up the basics of golf, including driving and putting. "It was a privilege to pick up the basics of golf from our national and pro golfers," said Samuel Lim, a gym owner and founder of local gym Cross Fit Fire City. Former Miss Singapore and skate coach Ziyi Kuek echoed the sentiments, sharing: "I played golf once before but that was with a group of friends and I was never taught the real basics to the sport." It proved to be an eye opener for many of the members of media, some of whom were playing golf for the same time. Xing Tong wins National Qualifying Tournament Singapore amateur Chen Xing Tong has clinched a coveted spot to compete in the 2024 edition of the HSBC Women’s World Championship, emerging victorious in the national qualifying tournament with an even-par performance over two days. Reflecting on her performance, Chen stated, "These past two days, I really wanted to be consistent, such as keeping the ball in play and hitting the fairways and greens. With her place in the tournament confirmed, Chen will intensify her preparations by frequenting Sentosa Golf Club to navigate the Tanjong Course in the coming weeks. Regarding her focus leading up to the tournament start on February 29, she remarked, "For me, it will be to try to maintain the same level of consistency I had over the past two days. • Wheels up and around the world with cyclist Tiffany Puspita

A passion for exploration and cycling fuels the journey of this avid cyclist content creator, who now averages an overseas cycling trip once every two months Losing one too many drones at sea to master the art of capturing the perfect drone cycling videos have proven to be worth it for cyclist Tiffany Puspita. One look at her Instagram feed will leave you mesmerized by the breathtaking views she captures from her drone and you’ll be instantly scrolling for more. Tiffany has her best friend to credit for introducing her to cycling during the COVID-19 circuit breaker period. Little did she know that her passion for cycling would grow into what it is today. “I started cycling along the park connectors on rented bikes. Back then, I felt it was already such an achievement cycling to Marina Bay Sands from my house,” she recalled. “My cycling journey began when one day my best friend bought a road bike and I tried it and cycled to Changi Jurassic Mile. I was very impressed by how fast a road bike could go and that we could cover longer distances with less effort. Soon, I got my very first road bike.” Together they explored further places like Bollywood Veggies, BBC transmission tower at Kranji, Lamp post no.1 in Tuas, Coney Island and more. They also formed a cycling club called No Pressure Pressure Club and made it their mission to explore every corner of Singapore, discovering new places each time. When the border finally reopened, Tiffany’s cycling journey then ventured overseas. Now, Tiffany plans an overseas cycling trip almost every 1 - 2 months. “My first cycling trip was to Bali and since then I always bring my bike wherever I go!” “The most memorable cycling trip was my Samosir trip in October of 2022 with a group of close friends. Samosir is a small island in the middle of lake Toba, Indonesia. We cycled around the island of Samosir (~120km). The scenery along the way was breathtaking and beyond our expectations.” “The island was remote and quiet and we didn’t see many vehicles or any other cyclists along the way.” “It felt as though we were the only cyclists on the island!” Planning and packing for a cycling trip may seem rather daunting to some. Tiffany lets us in on some useful tips that could help make your overseas cycling dream come true. Plan the cycling routes first, then plan the logistics. Decide if you will be buying or renting a bike box. When booking the flight, check if there are any extra charges for the bike box. Land transport to the airport and hotel must be big enough to fit the bike box. Check that the hotel allows bikes up into the room. Don’t forget gear like jerseys, bibs, helmets, shoes, tools, pumps, spare tubes, energy bars, and more. It’s all about the experience. Research and reach out to a local cycling club to join their rides, and make new friends! Riding down an open and peaceful road surrounded by lush landscapes and majestic mountains, it is no wonder that Tiffany describes her cycling experience so far as being Empowering. “Cycling has improved my overall fitness, making me stronger mentally and physically. Through cycling I have also met wonderful people from around the world, many of whom became my close friends” “Cycling gives me freedom and confidence. It has taught me that nothing is impossible if we put our mind to it, and that we should keep pushing our limits.” Tiffany will be heading to Thailand, Italy, Australia and Malaysia this year. What is the importance of recovery work for athletes? Cheryl: Recovery is as important as training especially for athletes who are trying to constantly improve on their performance. The lack of recovery or the lack of attention on recovery routine is going to lead to a lot of things like lack of motivation lack of sleep because you just don't get quality sleep and of course a higher risk of injury and everything feels not as enjoyable anymore. Where does 100PLUS PRO High Protein sit in your recovery regime? Do you take it during competition or training? Cheryl: 100PLUS PRO, it’s actually good for during competition, during training. How does 100PLUS PRO High Protein taste like and how convenient is it in terms of preparation? Cheryl: It's a good and convenient beverage to fuel your performance. And in terms of training or competition as I mentioned before is a little sweet for me but I think that's the whole point of it. You need a little bit of sugar to help fuel your performance. What's the favourite thing about 100PLUS PRO for you and how does it compare to other 100PLUS drinks? Cheryl: This is a completely new 100PLUS drink. National Beach Volleyballer Eliza Chong shares with SportPlus.sg why post training recovery matters, and her first experience trying the 100PLUS PRO High Protein In an exclusive series with 100PLUS Singapore, Sportplus.sg sits down with 3 of Singapore's national athletes behind-the-scenes to discuss their recovery regimes, favourite recovery food choices and their first experiences trying the 100PLUS PRO High Protein. What is the importance of recovery work for athletes? Eliza: Recovery is a very important aspect of an athlete's training, as it allows us to recalibrate and come back stronger than before. What are some of your favourite recovery foods? Eliza: It really depends on what phase I am at during my season. If it's more in terms of me needing the energy I will have a greater intake of carbs, as well as salt intake. I am more of a vegetable person, so yes protein is important but I love my vegetables. How do you feel after trying 100PLUS PRO for the first time? Eliza: I feel good, I enjoy 100PLUS PRO's very unique taste, and it tastes very different from the rest of the 100PLUS drinks I've had before. Can you describe for people who have not tried 100PLUS PRO before what it’s good for and what it tastes like? Eliza: I would say it tastes like Vanilla. I love vanilla, it's a taste most people would love. 100PLUS PRO is known for fueling performance, how do you think this drink will enhance your recovery regime in any aspect moving forward? Eliza: 100PLUS PRO contains BCAA, Vitamin B3 B6 and B12, most of the Vitamins and ingredients I need, so I think it would be a great drink to add to my recovery routine from now on. When do you usually take your recovery drinks? Eliza: Most of the time I take my recover drinks after training, during the recovery period. And if I can possibly before I go to bed, I try to have a drink before I sleep. Describe 100PLUS PRO in 3 words. Eliza: Refreshing, unique and yums. #RecoveryDrinks #100PLUS #100PLUSSG #100PLUSPRO #FuelLikeAPro

  • Lion City Sailors and Royal Arion Raise Funds for Breast Cancer in Thrilling Cafe Football Charity Cup Clash

Under the blinding lights of Our Tampines Hub, two of the best teams in Singapore came together to display camaraderie through the Cafe Football (CF) Charity Cup 2024 on Friday evening Singapore, 12 January 2024   – Flags waved in unison, creating a zestful flutter among passionate Lion City Sailors fans in the stands while chants played a vital part in keeping the spirits of the players high. Despite being foes on the field, the teams were united by a common goal: to make a positive impact in the lives of those in need beyond the final whistle.  Played in support of Singapore Breast Cancer Foundation , the match saw a youthful and vibrant Women’s Premier League-winning Lion City Sailors team go up against the strong-willed Women’s National League champions Royal Arion, whose team features four Thai nationals with FIFA Women’s World Cup experience. The match was a thrilling one from kickoff to the blow of the final whistle, ending with the Sailors emerging victorious in a 4-2 win. In the 37th minute, The Sailors’ new signing, Qarissa Putri made the first mark on the scoresheet through a clinical lobbed finish which earned a collective roar from the fans.  Sarah Zu'rishqha followed suit five minutes later when she too announced her Sailors arrival in style. The teenager – arriving from Albirex Niigata – launched a right-footed shot from outside the box amidst cheers to shoot from the stands and her teammates. The shot whizzed past Thai custodian Waraporn Boonsing and into the top left corner. Just a mere few minutes after the start of the second half, a clumsy handball given away by Royal Arion widened the score gap as Nur Izzati stepped up to calmly slot the ball into goal. Despite being behind for most of the match, Royal Arion continued to put up a tough fight. In the 75th minute, Pikul Khueanpet pulled a goal back, causing the previously subdued Royal Arion fans to erupt into cheers of relief.  With only five minutes to go, Sara Hayduchok headed home a precisely taken corner by Miray Altun, who earned herself an assist. The match came to a close as Orapin Waenngoen joined her fellow national teammate to make it 4-2.  As the final whistle was blown, the stadium was engulfed in cheers, not just for the goals scored but also for the much greater cause of the CF Charity Cup. Beyond the goals and tackles on the green stage, the matches were testament to how football, at its core, is more than just a sport. With the prize money of SGD$11,000 being donated to Singapore Breast Cancer Foundation, the CF Charity Cup showed that even within the realm of football, there lies a formidable platform to raise awareness and funds for important causes in our society, highlighting the true beauty of the sport. #SgFootball   #WomensFootball
