Singapore, 7 December 2025 - The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2025 (SCSM 2025) concluded an unforgettable race weekend in the heart of Singapore, drawing more than 55,000 runners from 80 countries.

As Southeast Asia’s only World Athletics Gold Label race, the event once again reinforced its status as one of Asia’s premier running events — and this year, it delivered several record-breaking moments that will shape the legacy of marathon racing in Singapore.

Over two days, runners took on an inspiring challenge guided by this year’s theme: “Make That Finish Line Yours.”

Soh Rui Yong Makes SCSM History

Singapore’s celebrated long-distance runner Soh Rui Yong delivered the headline moment of the weekend. After winning the Half Marathon, Soh went on to defend his title in the Marathon category, becoming the first-ever double champion in SCSM history.

His victory in the National Championship marks his sixth marathon title, reinforcing Soh’s status as Singapore’s most successful marathoner.

“Challenge yourself — even if you fail, at least you tried,” Soh said after the win, describing the difficulty of running two hard races within 24 hours.

Rachel See Defends National Championship Title

In the women’s race, Rachel See continued her dominance by winning the National Marathon Championship with an impressive sub-3-hour time of 02:58:15. The victory marks See’s second consecutive championship win at SCSM.

“Completing the marathon under three hours feels incredible,” she shared after her performance.

Double Up Challenge Debuts With Strong Participation

A major highlight of SCSM 2025 was the introduction of the Double Up Challenge, allowing participants to race in two events across the weekend — including the Half Marathon and Marathon combination.

Almost 850 runners embraced the endurance test, underscoring the growing competitive spirit and community appeal of Singapore’s largest running event.

Iconic Race Experience Through Singapore

Runners experienced a route that showcased Singapore’s most scenic locations — from the National Stadium, Esplanade and Marina Bay, to the waterfront trails of Gardens by the Bay and East Coast Park. The Ekiden race also returned, with teams of four completing a marathon relay through multiple changeover zones at Bayfront Plaza, ECP Carpark E1 and Marina Barrage.

Elite Field Shines at World Athletics Gold Label Race

The Gold Label Elite Marathon featured top international athletes:

Abel Boniface Sikowo (Uganda) won the men’s title with a time of 02:15:40, successfully defending his 2024 title.

Shuko Genemo (Ethiopia) captured the women’s title in 02:41:24, her first win after a previous podium finish at SCSM.

Winners of the elite category took home USD$50,000 each, reflecting SCSM’s reputation as one of Asia’s best-rewarded international marathons.

A Celebration of Inclusion and Athletic Spirit

Beyond elite racing, SCSM 2025 showcased remarkable stories of resilience.

Canadian para-athlete Chris Koch became the first participant to finish both the Half Marathon and Marathon using a longboard, completing the Double Up Challenge and delivering one of the weekend’s most inspirational accomplishments.

Japan’s strong presence in the Non-Competitive Marathon also made headlines, with Kodai Ogawa and Asami Minakawa clocking standout performances.

Singapore’s Premier Running Event Continues To Grow

Event organisers and partners highlighted how the marathon strengthens Singapore’s position on the global sporting map:

Sport Singapore emphasised the event’s role in fostering inclusivity and mass participation.

The Singapore Tourism Board noted the growing number of international runners.

Standard Chartered, title sponsor since 2002, reaffirmed its support in building the race into a world-class marathon platform.

The IRONMAN Group, now in its 10th year organising SCSM, praised the sense of community, encouragement, and sportsmanship that defined the 2025 edition.

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon: Asia’s Marathon Destination

The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2025 delivered more than just elite results — it brought together runners of all abilities, from first-time marathoners to international champions. With strong participation, unforgettable racing moments, and the debut of the Double Up Challenge, SCSM continues to elevate Singapore’s global profile as a leading destination for running events.

As the race weekend closed under energising cheers, one message was clear:

the finish line belongs to every runner willing to chase it. #SCSM2025 #SgMarathon
