More than 8,300 runners take over Monterrey streets in an electrifying edition of the Powerade Monterrey Marathon

Monterrey, Nuevo León ,15 December 2025 — The Powerade Monterrey Marathon 2025 once again confirmed Monterrey’s growing status on the global running calendar, delivering an electrifying race day marked by elite-level performances, massive participation, and passionate crowd support.
More than 8,300 runners across multiple race categories flooded the streets of Monterrey early Sunday morning, setting off at 6:45 a.m. from Parque Fundidora. From the opening kilometres, the event showcased the depth of competition and the city’s ability to host world-class endurance racing.
Men’s Elite Race Decided in Final 100 Metres
The men’s elite marathon produced one of the most dramatic finishes in the event’s history. Ethiopian runner Abe Gashahun claimed victory in 2:09:32, executing a decisive surge in the final 100 metres to edge out Kenya’s Evans Mayaka, who finished just four seconds behind in 2:09:36.
The pair ran stride for stride for nearly the entire 42.195-kilometre distance, keeping spectators on edge until the final straight. Kenya’s Lameck Too Kibiwot rounded out the podium in 2:16:38.
The razor-thin margin between first and second place underscored the intensity of a race that remained undecided until the closing moments.
Oropeza Shines in Women’s Competition
In the women’s race, Mexican standout Isabel Guadalupe Oropeza delivered a composed and commanding performance, crossing the finish line in 2:38:00 to secure first place. Hailing from Tonalá, Jalisco, Oropeza once again showcased her consistency on one of Mexico’s most demanding marathon courses.
She was followed closely by Kenya’s Caroline Jebiwot Kiptoo in 2:38:40, while Leah Jebiwot Kigen completed the podium in 2:45:40.

A Course Through the Heart of Monterrey
The marathon route offered a true tour of Monterrey’s urban landscape, taking runners through Avenida Revolución, Garza Sada and Lázaro Cárdenas, before entering San Pedro Garza García via Calzada del Valle. Athletes then descended through Humberto Lobo and returned along Morones Prieto toward the finish line.
Thousands of spectators lined the streets throughout the course, creating a vibrant atmosphere that propelled runners from start to finish and reinforced the event’s reputation for strong local support.

Looking Ahead to a Landmark 20th Edition
With another successful edition completed, the Powerade Monterrey Marathon now turns its attention to 2026, when the race will celebrate its 20th anniversary. Organisers have promised an even bigger, faster and more memorable event, as Monterrey continues to cement its place among Mexico’s premier marathon destinations.
Runners from Mexico and around the world are already being invited to take part in what is shaping up to be a landmark celebration of running in northern Mexico, as the city prepares to mark two decades of marathon history. #PoweradeMonterreyMaraton
