SINGAPORE, 20 May 2026 — The morning quiet of Tanjong Pagar was shattered early today as hundreds of avid runners gathered at Guoco Tower Urban Park for the highly anticipated official registration launch of the Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) 2026.
Marking its historic 20th anniversary under the theme “20 Years, Limitless,” Southeast Asia’s premier all-women’s running event proved yet again why it remains a crown jewel on Singapore’s mass participation sports calendar.
While online registrations opened simultaneously at noon, the real drama unfolded on the ground. Dedicated participants began lining up hours before the sun rose, eager to secure their spot for the main race happening on Sunday, 1 November 2026, at the Singapore National Stadium.

Inspiring the Community: Joanna See Honoured for 19-Year Legacy
Beyond the race for registration slots, the morning's most emotional highlight came when organisers presented a special token of appreciation to Joanna See, a pillar of the local running community.
"Every step has a purpose, but Joanna's miles carry a legacy of survival and hope."
Joanna is preparing to run the event for an incredible 20th consecutive year. What makes her journey truly limitless is the profound purpose behind her miles: for each of those 19 years, Joanna has dedicated her run to a different cancer survivor.
Her unwavering commitment to raising awareness and running for a cause greater than herself brought a powerful sense of inspiration to everyone in attendance at Guoco Tower today.

4:15 AM Arrival: Dedication Redefined
The physical queue began forming long before the morning commute. The very first participant arrived at a staggering 4:15 AM, braving the pre-dawn humidity to lead a queue that eventually snaked around the Guoco Tower precinct.
Demonstrating the growing appeal of the sport among the younger generation, the first two participants in line were tertiary education students. Their presence highlights a shifting demographic in Singapore's running community, as younger women increasingly embrace long-distance running and competitive fitness.

The Fight for the First 118 Free Race Slots
The massive early crowd was driven by a highly coveted onsite incentive. To celebrate its landmark 20th edition, event organizers announced that the first 118 participants in the physical queue who arrived wearing past GEWR race t-shirts would receive free slots (a pair of complimentary race entries) for the upcoming event.
By the time the clock struck noon for the official flag-off of registration, the 118 free spots were instantly snapped up. Beyond the complimentary slots, the first 500 onsite registrants walked away with an exclusive event goodie bag valued at $130, packed with merchandise from returning fitness and wellness partners. Voices from the Queue: What "Limitless" Means to the Community
Our team was on the ground catching up with the women who made the pre-dawn trek to Guoco Tower. From tertiary students setting their alarms for the middle of the night to corporate professionals and working moms, the energy in the queue perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the event's 20th anniversary.

The Early Birds: Tertiary Students Leading the Charge
Proving that the next generation is more than ready to carry the torch for Singapore's running community, university students Natanya and Alyssa were the very first to arrive at Guoco Tower.
"We decided to try to queue for it because they were giving out free complimentary slots," shared Natanya, a student at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), who confessed they arrived at a staggering 4:30 AM.
When asked if they had any survival tips for the hundreds of women who lined up behind them, Alyssa, a student at the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM), laughed, offering some highly practical advice: "Bring foldable chairs and sleep early!"
Empowerment on Remote Work and Family Pillars
Further back in the snake-like queue, friends Qasmirah and Iman arrived at 6:45 AM, balancing their professional and family lives to ensure they didn’t miss out on the milestone registration.
"I work in finance, but I'm on work from home—remote, remote work!" Qasmirah shared with a laugh, while Iman noted her equally demanding role as a full-time housewife.
For Qasmirah, waking up early to secure her slot was about something much larger than just a Sunday morning race. "For me, it’s basically woman empowerment," she explained. "Because it’s all women, I feel that when you run for the GE Run, we are not only running for ourselves, but also helping others."
A Return from Injury and 12 Years of Loyalty
The physical queue also brought out long-time loyalists of the event. For Gwendolyn Tan, an avid runner who has participated in the race for over a decade, the 2026 edition represents a beautiful tradition.
"I’ve been running the GE Women’s Run for the last 12 years," Gwen said. "Every single edition holds a special meaning to myself and also the ladies that I’ve run with over the last few years. I’m really looking forward to doing this year’s race with all my girlfriends here."

Standing alongside her was Roxanne Low, whose participation this year represents a deeply personal victory over physical adversity.
"This is my second GE Women’s Run, and I’m back running from an ACL surgery," Roxanne shared proudly. "The GE Women’s Run represents a community of girls supporting each other. Throughout the run, there will be different distances running at the same time, and we’ll all be there to support one another." Are you planning to run the historic 20th edition?
