adidas has officially unveiled the Hyperboost Edge, a next-generation lightweight road running shoe designed to redefine performance for everyday runners.

Combining maximum cushioning, high energy return, and lightweight comfort, the new adidas Hyperboost Edge running shoe marks the beginning of a new era for road runners seeking both training durability and race-level performance.
Launching globally on 17 March 2026, the bold new running shoe will debut in a striking red colourway at select retailers and on adidas’ official platforms, with additional colourways arriving from 1 May 2026.

A Lightweight Super Trainer Built for Everyday Road Running
The adidas Hyperboost Edge has been designed as the brand’s first lightweight non-plated super trainer, delivering premium running performance without the stiffness often associated with plated running shoes.
Weighing just 255 grams, the shoe achieves a balance between responsive cushioning and lightweight construction, making it ideal for daily training, long runs, and high-mileage sessions.
At the core of the shoe are three breakthrough technologies that define the Hyperboost Edge running experience:
Hyperboost Pro midsole
PRIMEWEAVE upper
LIGHTTRAXION outsole
Together, these innovations help deliver a propulsive ride, enhanced comfort, and reliable traction across a wide range of running conditions.

Hyperboost Pro: Maximum Cushioning Meets High Energy Return
The centerpiece of the adidas Hyperboost Edge is the Hyperboost Pro foam midsole, a new high-performance material engineered to deliver maximum cushioning without sacrificing responsiveness.
Inspired by adidas’ elite racing midsole technologies, the foam provides a dynamic running experience across all types of runs, from short training sessions to long-distance mileage.
Key midsole features include:
45mm rearfoot stack height for superior cushioning
6mm drop for smooth transition through the gait cycle
High-energy rebound to help runners maintain momentum
According to testing conducted by adidas in partnership with the German Sport University Cologne, the Hyperboost Edge demonstrated strong performance results among a group of 60 runners, 73% preferred the shoe’s energy return, 77% reported softer cushioning, more than half preferred its overall comfort and majority said it delivered a better overall running experience.
These findings position Hyperboost Pro technology as a new benchmark in modern running shoe innovation.

PRIMEWEAVE Upper Delivers Lightweight Comfort and Secure Fit
Complementing the advanced foam is a PRIMEWEAVE upper, designed to be both ultra-light and highly breathable.
The woven construction provides:
Soft step-in comfort
Secure lockdown for stable running
Lightweight structure that reduces overall shoe weight
Additional integrated heel pods provide targeted cushioning and stability around the heel, enhancing comfort and support without adding unnecessary bulk.
The result is a running shoe that feels effortless on foot while maintaining reliable support across different running intensities.

LIGHTTRAXION Outsole Inspired by adidas Racing DNA
The Hyperboost Edge also features the LIGHTTRAXION outsole, a full-length traction system inspired by adidas’ race-day footwear.
Built on a lighter, thinner outsole base, the design provides:
Reliable grip from heel to toe
Durable traction for road running surfaces
Stable foot placement for confident strides
This outsole technology brings the performance mindset of the adidas Adizero racing line into a daily training running shoe, making it suitable for runners who want both performance and durability.
Bold Design Highlights the Power of Hyperboost Technology
Beyond performance innovation, the Hyperboost Edge introduces a new visual identity for adidas running shoes.
The shoe features a bold, high-stacked midsole silhouette inspired by industrial design forms. For the first time in adidas running footwear, the iconic three stripes are placed directly on the midsole, highlighting the Hyperboost Pro foam as the shoe’s performance engine.
The upper maintains a clean, futuristic aesthetic with:
Minimal detailing
Hidden eyelets
Light-bonded construction elements
This sleek design approach creates a modern, progressive look that reflects the future of performance running footwear.

adidas: The “Power of Three” Running Philosophy
Patrick Nava, General Manager of adidas Running, explained the philosophy behind the new shoe:
“We wanted to bring something truly transformative to runners. Hyperboost Edge is where the Power of Three comes to life—cushioning, energy, and lightness combined seamlessly in one shoe.”
The concept focuses on combining three essential running performance factors: cushioning for impact protection, energy return for propulsion and lightweight construction for effortless movement
By merging these elements without compromise, adidas has created a super trainer designed for runners of all levels and mileage goals.

Interesting that they're moving away from plates for a super trainer. As someone who values comfort on long runs, that focus on cushion without stiffness is really appealing.
