Our latest review on activewear products turns to lululemon's 'Express Your Strength' training range, as national hockey athlete and SportPlus Marketing and PR representative Gene Leck recently decked herself out from head to toe in lululemon's training range.

Find out what she has to say here!

I recently tried out the lululemon Energy Bra Asia Fit, Wunder Train High-Rise Short with Pockets, as well as The Reversible Mat from the Express Your Strength Train Collection. In all honesty, I was very excited to try out the apparels because of how much I’ve heard about lululemon’s products (especially from my friends who are big lulu fans).

Energy Bra Asia Fit

I first read about lululemon's Energy Bra in an article posted on our website earlier this year 'Choosing the Right Sports Bra for your Workout' on sports bra recommendations, where Yogi and Cross-fit trainer Dawn Sim described it as a “versatile all-rounder bra” as she shared her top sports bra recommendations.

For an athlete like me, the bra seemed like it would cater well to the different intensities of activities that I engage in on a regular basis - hockey training, strength and conditioning in the gym, and HIIT workouts.

Aesthetic Design

I chose the Energy Bra in the shade Scream Green Light (it literally screams green light) as I thought that the luminous shade of green would be a refreshing pop of colour in my wardrobe (p.s. I don’t own many neon coloured apparels).

Trying it on, I felt the colour complimented my complexion nicely and was very pleased with how it looked on me. I especially liked the double strapped cross back detail that enhances the look and style of the bra.

Fit and Support

As for the sizing of the bra, it was a snug fit that was accurate to its measurements. I tried jumping, skipping and some simple yoga exercises in the bra and true to its description, the bra offered more than sufficient support, even for the activities of higher intensity.

The support definitely allows for versatility of use as I can pretty much use it for any form of exercise, without having to worry if it’d provide enough support.

Feel of Material

Made of Luxtreme™, one of lululemon’s best-selling fabrics, the sweat-wicking material helps the bra to stay breathable and remains cool to the touch, even when I’m sweating buckets from my workout.

I’m usually extra-conscious of the material my sports bras are made of as I tend to get abrasions or should I call them aBRAsions from the rubbing on the skin at the band area. As for the Energy Bra, I might not have worn it for a long enough period to know for sure, but just from the duration of the workout alone, it felt comfortable enough for me and I highly doubt that it would have given me an aBRAsion even if I had worn it for a longer period of time.

In all, I had no complaints about the Energy Bra and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a stylish sports bra that looks good and feels good to be in for almost any form of workout.

Wunder Train High-Rise Short with Pockets 8”

I tried the Wunder Train Shorts in the conventional black which is my go-to because it’s a lot easier to match with bra tops of any colour.

I think when it comes to activewear bottoms, regardless of shorts or tights, there are some common concerns - how well the tights hug onto our bodies, if the fit looks good, if the tights are good enough to avoid unflattering fits in certain areas. So how did I feel about the Wunder Train High-Rise Short?

Firstly, I liked the pockets that were sufficiently deep to hold my phone. I think the pockets were designed to hold lightweight objects so it will be perfect for car keys, cards or even some cash for those who like to go to their workouts with too many things on hand.

As for the fit of the short, from what I understand, the 8” is a slightly longer version, which is a little different for me compared to my usual short that ends higher than mid-thigh height. But the unfamiliar length definitely did not get in the way of my workout. I liked the general tightness of the shorts especially at the waistband area and I felt it offered a good amount of compression and stretch - just about right and not too tight for my athletic thighs.

The Wunder Train Shorts were extremely comfortable to work out in as it stayed relatively dry throughout. Powered by Lululemon’s Exerlux fabric, the shorts possess sweat-wicking features to help one stay cool in comfort throughout a workout.

The Reversible Mat

I tried The Reversible Mat in the shades Chalky Rose/ Graphite Grey and I absolutely love the rosy pink shade. The pink side of the mat is the smoother textured side with a rubber grip that allows for better balance.

I generally sweat quite a lot and have experienced mats that didn’t have a good enough grip where I would slip off amidst the workout. I was pleasantly pleased with the grip support that The Reversible Mat could provide. And the fact that it’s in such a pretty shade of pink is a definite plus point. The mat also comes with a natural rubber base that is designed for cushioning and a textured grip for low-sweat practices.

In all, I’m in awe of the quality and comfort that the Lululemon apparels provide and can definitely understand why they are so popular amongst the active crowd.
