SINGAPORE, 24 May 2026 - Following a brief hiatus, the Tour de Bintan returns with a dynamic new visual identity, a high-stakes partnership with Trifactor, and a major upgrade to its competitive status that is set to attract elite cyclists from Singapore, Indonesia, and across the globe.

A Fresh Look and Global Ambitions: The Trifactor Partnership

Announced at a press conference in Jakarta on May 21, the 2026 edition marks a massive transformation for the event. Big News for Elites: Introduction of the UCI 1.2 Point Race

The biggest sporting upgrade for 2026 is the introduction of an official UCI 1.2 point race. Registered under the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), this elite category allows professional riders to earn crucial international ranking points based on their results.

This elevates Tour de Bintan from a premier mass-participation event to a highly competitive fixture on the international cycling calendar, guaranteed to draw top-tier racing teams to the region.

Race Categories for Every Level: From ITT to the Gran Fondo Classic

While the elites battle it out for UCI points, Tour de Bintan 2026 remains highly accessible to amateur enthusiasts, weekend warriors, and beginners. Lead event coordinator Raja Azmizal Usman confirmed a comprehensive lineup of race categories:

  • Gran Fondo Classic (150km): The ultimate, long-distance professional and competitive test.

  • Gran Fondo Century (100km): A classic distance for seasoned endurance riders.

  • Gran Fondo Challenge (70km): Perfect for mid-distance enthusiasts looking for a solid challenge.

  • Gran Fondo Discovery (45km): A highly approachable route designed for beginners and recreational riders.

  • Individual Time Trial (ITT) (17km): A pure test of speed, power, and aerodynamic efficiency.

The entire race village will be exclusively centered at Lagoi Bay, the vibrant heartbeat of Bintan Resorts, offering a seamless blend of race-day adrenaline and post-race leisure.

The Terrain: Smooth Asphalt, Rolling Hills, and No Pollution

What makes cycling in Bintan so unique? Event Brand Ambassador Chaidir Akbar notes that the island’s topography offers a brilliant technical challenge.

"The combination of hilly and rolling roads presents a technical challenge, especially for cyclists who excel in short climbs and undulating sections, while the longer stretches provide sprinters with the perfect opportunity to truly test their power," Akbar shared.

Participants will ride along pristine coastlines, dense forest outskirts, and traditional local villages. The course contours are beautifully deceptive—never steep enough to force you to stop, yet never flat enough to let you stop pedaling. Best of all, riders can expect perfectly maintained, smooth asphalt roads with minimal traffic disruption and clean, pollution-free island air.

The Ultimate Sport Tourism Weekend Getaway

Tour de Bintan has always been about more than just the race; it is a premium weekend escape for family and friends. Major premium hospitality brands—including Indigo Bintan Lagoi Beach Hotel, Holiday Inn Resort Bintan Lagoi Beach, Mövenpick Resort & Spa Bintan Lagoon, and Bintan Lagoon Life Style Retreat—have signed on as supporting sponsors, ensuring world-class recovery and accommodation options.

The Bintan Regency Government is heavily backing the event as part of its aggressive push to hit 300,000 tourist arrivals in 2026. "Sport tourism remains one of the key attractions in bringing group visitors to Bintan while also driving the local economy," stated Ronny Kartika, Regional Secretary of Bintan Regency.
